Eleven and hopper

GOODBYE GOODBYE YOU WERE BIGGER THAN THE WHOLE SKY

Jane is alive and Hopper knows.

If this is the ending we are supposed to live with, there’s no way he doesn’t. There is just no way that Jim Hopper loses his daughter for the second mf time, that he watches her die (by her own ”choice”) and makes peace with it. He wouldn’t stay alive long enough to even try.

My new (coping) headcanon is that after it’s all over and they’ve all been released, Hopper goes back to the cabin alone. The military has stripped him of every single thing even vaguely resembling a weapon, but he’s had a go-bag hidden beneath the floorboards since even before Owens handed him that birth certificate, with everything they’d need to make a hasty exit, including a handgun. A gun he now intends to put to good use.

But when he digs it out, nothing is where it’s supposed to be. Jane’s passports, the ones he’d quietly had Murray acquire for him— that changes her name and her age, that make her an adult incase something happened to him— are gone. So is the cash, the thousands of American and Canadian dollars all vanished into thin air. And at the bottom of the bag, the gun he’d stashed is wrapped in a dirty, torn, blue bandana. The fully loaded magazine is nowhere to be found. Even the bullet in the chamber is gone.

And he knows.

He doesn’t know how. He doesn’t know where. But he knows.

Once the tears have dried, Hopper quietly puts the bag away and the useless gun way. He burns his own passports in the hearth, the ones where his fake surnames matches the fake ones on hers, and scatters the ashes in the woods behind the house.

He tells no one. Not Mike. Not Will. Not even Joyce. No, Jim Hopper does what he’s always done, ever since the day a cold, hungry, scared little girl followed him through the snow back to his car.
