Did you know you’re one of my favorite people on this planet? Gosh, Christine where do I even begin? I feel like I’ve exhausted every compliment I could possibly give you, and every reminder of how awesome you are, but that can’t be true because you keep finding ways to remind me of how awesome you are. 

Yes, I laugh at everything, but know this, while I can’t always remember why something cracked me up so hard, the number of times you (and mars) have made me cry/wheeze/snort/gasp for air on call is ridiculous. I look back on all our calls fondly, and while most of our conversations are absolute shit just coming out of both our mouths, I love those conversations so much regardless. You have been making this quarantine shit so much bearable just by being yourself, and I hate that you’re having to spend your birthday indoors like this when you should be out, getting yummy food, delicious sweets and going on beautiful walks with your beautiful dog. (I also really wish I was there ugh!!!) 

I can’t honestly describe how proud I’ve been of you over the past few months. I know finding a job that makes you happy has been a rough journey for you, after a difficult time deciding what you wanted to do at college, but I really believe this is the path for you. You were made to teach and inspire, and to connect with others and make sure their their highschool experiences were everything they should be. 

I really hate the stereotype that Slytherins are mean and selfish and blah blah blah, because if you’ve taught me anything it’s that you embody all the best qualities of Slytherin, and in fact all the other houses. You’re ambitious, and absolutely cunning, and your loyalty to your clan knows no bounds. You’re brave in a way I wish I was, and when you care about a cause or a person, you don’t cower or sweeten your words because you believe in what you do fully and with all your heart. You’re also incredibly intelligent (in your own words, “you have all your braincells!”) and more than anything? You’re a good friend: period. I may not be a parent either, but I want you to know you’re also a good daughter. It’s not always easy to be that, but you do your best and you deserve to rest easy knowing that you are one. 

I’m so lucky and honored to be your best friend (I feel shy saying that hehe), because I can’t possibly imagine making you as happy and comforted and welcomed and embraced as much as you have made me feel.

             𝐋𝐎𝐔 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐆𝐔𝐓. as soon as she’d laid eyes on the well-dressed gent, with his clear pale skin and dark, dark eyes, she’d had the sense of something other about him. probably a werewolf: the loup garou were savage in new orleans, lou’s original home, but here, up north were no more a threat than mortals themselves. had she listened, perhaps she wouldn’t be in this predicament. 

❛ 𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐋, 𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐓, ❜ she sighed when caught. she’d attempted to steal the ostentatious jeweled ring off his finger, a feat she could normally manage without so much as a blink from her mark, but this cardan proved difficult. ❛ I knew there was something funny about you. and to think, I actually kind of enjoyed your company. too bad I’ll have to make you forget about all of this. ❜ she didn’t want to have to use magic, but if she was caught pickpocketing again here... well. she didn’t want to think about that. 

          𝐢𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬, and still jude could not fathom the weight of what had just taken place. she did not yet feel any different, but by the light of cardan’s depth-less eyes, could tell that there was a difference now. she was queen. his queen. and it was this, most of all, which gave her heart cause to race. she felt herself a pretender, lying not to others, but to herself. but it failed to be true. she was the queen, the mortal queen, a girl who had once longed to be anything to these creatures... was now their queen. 

❝ the living court will not be pleased with this, ❞ jude whispers, unable still to part from matters of politics in favor of... her eyes roved over cardan’s languorous form... matters of cardan greenbriar. 

         𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐞. 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲. 𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐤. 𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐞. 𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠. 𝐣𝐚𝐛. 𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐤. 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭. 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭. 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭. when the bloodlust recedes and she can think again, she’s left staring at a dummy with half its spongy entrails drooping out onto the training grounds. oops. she throws the sword to the side and sighs. jude’s been training for weeks, with no message from her father, no sign of improvement. her need to prove herself as a daughter of ares as being the fiercest, strongest, mightiest overshadows her need to drink, to eat, to breathe. she looks around at camp half-blood and everyone seems to belong innately. but she, she wishes for decadence, for riches, for more than spilled blood. but spilled blood is all she has, so what can she do but embrace it? 

when she turns to grab her water bottle, she’s face to face with cardan greenbrier. ❝ can I help you? your dryad harem is that way. ❞
