Higurashi is seriously one of my favourite series ever. Like, out of all media forms, not just anime. I love it so much... the characters, the story... The first time you finally see the story come together was mind blowing.
Higurashi was the firstĀ ādarkerā anime I got into back in 2008 and Iāve been in love with it ever since (I even translated the first chapter of theĀ āEye Opening Arcā light novel for my final project for my bachelors in Japanese and translation studies). Ā
Itās amazing and will always be a series I keep close to my heart. Ā While the animation isnāt the best (and theĀ āKiraā OVA wasā¦.ehā¦ehhh) Ā itās still a wonderful story that carries a lot of themes. Ā Itās kinda upsetting how it tends to get boiled down to aĀ āmoe yandere horrorā series. Itās so far from thatā¦Ā
All your talking and drawing of Layers of Fear made me interested but I'm super easily scared (only played Amnesia with a guide when the monsters where supposed to pop up, etc and still played the Prison scene with sound off, screaming all the while) do you know any good let's play video's I could watch?
The only one Iām familiar with is Cryās stream of the game, which is what I went to when I was curious about it (start around 13 minutes in). Heās also played through the DLC on his main channel.
Although, Layers of Fear really is one of those type games that you get the most out of by playing it yourself, mostly because of items and sequences some LPers miss. Not to mention the different endings (the main game and DLC have 3 endings each, and itās important especially in the DLC to play through each time doing different things because there are two distinct paths with their own audio flashbacks to listen to).
But yeah, Iād recommend Cryās LP. Just put the video on fullscreen and enjoy - despite his commentary, I found myself very much immersed anyway.
Looking back, I wish I hadnāt been so skeptical of Layers to begin with, because watching Cryās LPs meant I couldnāt go into the main game or Inheritance blind, and thatās a nice thing to have with a new horror gameā¦but I plan to do that for Bloober Teamās next game, Observer.
