It’s difficult for us to give you a term for what you’re experiencing because we’re not professionals. To me, that sounds like intrusive thoughts/images. I personally experience them when I’m crossing the road for example, I get this thought of myself walking in front of a vehicle and it can be pretty gory and pervasive. I can understand how it can be very disturbing and cause us great distress. Although I know it’s not real, it occupies my attention and the thoughts/images feel sort of like someone turned on a projector showing the scene. For me, they tend to be triggered by certain objects or situations.

I would suggest that you bring it up with your therapist again and perhaps spend a little bit more time exploring it. Maybe you can try writing down when you experiences such intrusive images; how you’re feeling at the time, whether it’s in any particular location or time of day, what they consist of, how long they last and stuff like that. Such insights may help your therapist to better understand your situation.
