thank you, internal monologue that sounds strangely like dan green who i think is your knuckles’ voice claim but i messed up toby’s voice claim for their sonic so i’m making a wild guess and feel free to hit me over the head if i’m wrong!

                TAILS keeps us flying high, to stay above TROUBLE!

               And KNUCKLES by our side, makes this a safer RIDE!

        BLUE HEDGEHOG IS SUDDENLY PERKING AT THE OTHER’S WORDS, aforementioned laughter quickly dying down as he blinks a couple times in surprise. the last thing he expected from knuckles was for him to react like that--- especially considering just a moment ago he seemed to be getting infuriated with sonic’s usual antics.

        HAD IT REALLY BEEN A LONG TIME? sonic wasn’t sure whether it was the truth, or knuckles just not knowing how much time exactly had passed once again. it seemed to be a common occurrence, but the hedgehog wasn’t complaining one bit. it wasn’t entirely his fault--- it was rare to see the hero on angel island, or having knuckles off of it after all.

        MAYBE HIS LITTLE MASK WAS SLIPPING. maybe hidden sadness was starting to shine through despite his various attempts at keeping it hidden, buried--- but having knuckles notice and point something like this out? thinking on it for a moment, it’s no real surprise. the echidna was the guardian of the master emerald, as well as angel island--- having to constantly watch, be on guard; noticing changes--- no matter how small--- seemed right up his alley.

        “ well, ya miss a lot when you’re up here all the time. ” HE’S QUICK TO RECOVER FROM THE MILD BEWILDERMENT, ever familiar smug smirk forming as he’s leaning back against the altar’s stairs and arms folding behind his head. of course he’s careful with how he’s speaking--- he’s already gotten on knuckles’ nerves enough to this point, he deserves a little bit of a break. just because sonic understood and respected the other’s devotion to his duty didn’t mean it would save knuckles from his lighthearted teasing.

Whoops, he let himself fall too close to the ground and face planted right into the grass. He lifted himself up, shaking grass out of his quills as mismatched eyes spotting Knuckles again and he raised a thumbs up.
