A study of a male Steller's Eider, whose Alaska breeding population was listed as endangered in 1997, although two other breeding populations are found in Arctic Russia. Causation for their decline is not fully understood but is likely due to predation, shooting and metal poisoning. All those subtle green tones in his plumage π Created using drawing ink, pencil and acrylic markers. This gentle-eyed fellow is looking for a new wall to hang on!
A common eider duck illustrated in a vintage naturalist style, inspired by quiet coastal landscapes and classic wildlife prints. Soft textures, gentle colors, and simple botanical details reflect the calm rhythm of nature by the shore. Available on birdsnstuff.shop.
Notes from a Cold Island: Duck Season
Notes from a Cold Island: Duck Season. With spring come the birds and with summer the midnight sun!
Spring has already arrived and, much like a family member staying with you for an extended visit, has already settled in and made itself comfortable. Summer is impatiently waiting in the wings and everyone here is most excited. Itβs 22.30 but outside is brighter than the London skyline at night and the birds are chirping away happily as if it were high noon happy hour. The days now can get warmβ¦

**** NEW NEW NEW **** With their superb plumage and distinctive, endearing calls, eiders are a much-loved sight around the coast of northern Scotland, with these non migrant nesting seabird Ducks are resident along at Golspie and often seen at Loch Fleet. In the breeding season, the male is easily identified by his pristine black and white plumage, beautifully complemented by a subtle green nape and a soft pinkish flush on his white chest feathers. By contrast, the female is brown with an intricately barred pattern. Our new rustic edge slate coaster was designed by Tim Griffiths Illustrations and Digital Designs , etched by Maggie Irving - Turning Point, so a joint venture for Barn Owl Bothy . We have a range of other East Sutherland Coastline bird coasters to include Puffins, Oystercatchers, Curlews, and the Black Throated Diver . https://www.barnowlbothy.com/Store/#!/Eider-Sea-Ducks-Coaster/p/364458134 #eider #eiderduck #eiderseaduck #seaducks #golspie #lochfleet #lochfleetthemound #lochfleetnaturereserve https://www.instagram.com/p/CPxWBmLr4lv/?utm_medium=tumblr
