steve attends every single corroded coffin concert, cheers and screams until his throat is raw every single night

steve travels in the bus with the tour cross-country, and collects mini figurines from each state

nobody knows that steve and eddie are dating (except the band obviously), and eddie dedicates the same song every night to his “sweetheart,” to which steve swoons everytime

when eddie does press, the interviewers always ask about his love life. eddie’s a pretty private guy, so he simply winks, grins at them, and says that he’ll “leave his sweetheart up to interpretation”

when they’re not on the road, they live a domestic life, cooking meals together, reading together, and making love together :,)

of course they want to settle down one day, adopt some children when they can, but for now? steve loves the thrill of being on the road—he wouldn’t change it for the world

three years, they loved each other.

twelve years later, steve’s married. has a family and kids. and eddie? touring the united states, with his band the wrath of inferno.

they meet by chance, in a bar in indianapolis.

steve has glasses now, has to clean them to make sure he isn’t seeing things. like the man that got away isn’t sitting a mere few inches away from him.

eddie’s got salt and pepper hair, a silver band on his ring finger, and an arm around another guy.

steve swallows thickly, brings the liquid courage to his mouth, and takes a few gulps.

“eddie?”

“….steve?”

steve’s never been a strong reader.

the letters swim together on the page, and it frustrates him.

he doesn’t know why.

he wants to be able to experience the worlds that eddie gushes about to him, wants to experience that for himself.

so eddie starts reading to him.

eddie reads to him every night in bed, puts on character voices that has steve giggling into his shoulder. peers over eddie’s shoulder and reads along with him, finds it’s easier when eddie’s speaking out loud.

eddie never calls him “stupid,” never calls him any of the insults that his teachers called him back in highschool that made him feel insecure.

he just simply flicks the page over, giving steve a lopsided grin that has steve’s heart fluttering.

“i think you’re really gonna like this next part,” eddie says warmly, and steve smiles back, presses a kiss to the nape of his neck.

he really likes the next part—he always does.

they spend the summer skirting around each other, two boys coming to terms with their own sexuality in an unsafe environment.

on the last day of camp, eddie kisses steve lightly on the trail back to the cabins, heart racing in his chest.

steve doesn’t kiss back.

panicking, he runs back to his cabin, buried himself underneath his blankets, and cries himself to sleep.

what he doesn’t know, is steve wanted to kiss him.

steve watches eddie from afar, remembers the time they spent at summer camp together.

they never speak to each other, only fleeting glances in the hallway, sweat prickling on the backs of their necks.

that is, until vecna happens.

and eddie pins him to the ball, a bottle to his throat, fire in his eyes.

and that’s when all the feelings steve’s been suppressing for all these years come rushing back.

it’s the 60s.

steve harrington, loving husband and father to two kids, is sent on a mission to space. he is tasked with monitoring and repairing the ship, ensuring everything is up to protocol.

when nightfall comes, he transfers his consciousness to his replica, which resides in california, so that he can spend time with his family.

eddie munson is the other person on board.

it’s a two man job, one that requires the both of them in order to maintain the spaceship, but in his free time, he transfers his consciousness to his replica on earth, to spend time with his wife, and daughter in hawkins, indiana.

what the two of them don’t realize, is how disconnected they feel from their replicas. the sex isn’t the same, their emotions are weak, and they are unable to experience the true meaning of life, cooped up in the spaceship, miles away from their families.

so they turn to each other.

it starts with the little things—steve brushing against eddie’s shoulder, eddie passing sneaking glances whenever steve’s not looking.

the only real human contact, is the contact they experience with each other.

over the course of six years, they start to catch feelings, start to rely on the electricity that courses through their skin whenever they touch, as the connection they feel with their wives are weak, not as strong.

when steve transfers his consciousness to earth, spends time writing songs about steve. hums the melody underneath his breath, waits for the man to return to his arms.

when eddie’s gone, steve draws. he draws so much it overflows from his notebook, spills onto the floor in a mesh of paper. there is one consistent factor about his art.

and that is eddie.
