Ok I'd better explain myself for the newbies. I have had Sev since a tiny bab and she has never been around a male. My poor departed Rumple was the same.
Last year around April Rumple laid a Mystery Egg--a good plump egg with a big purple splotch. The splotch had veins. So I whipped up an incubator. It grew more veins. It even eventually had a visible heartbeat when candled! And it unfortunately failed around 30 days (although you'll find pics I posted of a poor sunken egg with the panicked comments of "it's still good!! It was not) and when opened found a barely developed embryo.
My interest was piqued. There was a plague raging outside, I was working from home, and frankly I needed the distraction. So when Sev laid some plump eggs, I decided what the hell and incubated 3.
They failed in like 2 weeks.
But then she had another clutch! There were 12 very nice eggs! I incubated them and waited.
Most failed by 50 days. But a few still looked promising, veins and all. So I waited some more. And more. And more.
By 90 days they had all failed--but three had results! Not viable results but what was in those eggs were absolutely lizards. Two of them looked perfect and probably failed about 2 weeks short of hatching. The other was a nightmare and never had a chance. But still! Fetal growth! Very exciting!
So anyway I'm going to try again this year with any decent looking eggs Sev might may. I got 6 in there now, but the odds aren't great. Still, I have the setup lying around anyway--might as well.
Anyway beardie parthenogenesis experiment--round 4!
