Noya places himself in the middle, knees loose as he lowers himself into a half-crouch. Ready to receive anything. He’s smiling lightly, the usual boisterousness subsiding into a quiet, warm calm. Not only after Asahi serves and he receives it flawlessly, sending the ball straight to the setter who would receive it if he were here and it wasn’t just the two of them practising, does the libero speak, voice thoughtful.

He was surprised, not that Asahi didn’t always show concern when he left to go do his hero duties, but he didn’t normally cling to him like this. It softened his expression and he gently petted the taller man’s luscious locks in an attempt to soothe him. He appreciated the other’s concern very much and no matter how often they went through this he would always reassure him to the best of his ability.

Oikawa had always been good at judging his limits, the limits of others--but he found that everything he knew seemed to fly out of the window when it came to Asahi. It would be all too easy for him to respond immediately with a defensive retort at Asahi’s bitter words. He’d always been the type to be defensive, always pushing and prodding when he perceived any type of rejection. Even if Oikawa was the one in the wrong

Oikawa crossed his arms, digging his fingers into his biceps in an attempt at restraining himself.

“Do you want me to just stop altogether then?” He asked tersely. “If it makes you so upset, I can just stop--” talking to you altogether. Joking around with you. Acting like we’re friends. These were all things that he could say, pointed little remarks that were aimed to hurt Asahi more than placate him.

‘ That’s because you’re fussing, ’ Sugawara countered with a laugh.  ‘ I’ll take it out when you want it out, but I think your hair would look quite cute if it was wavy. ’ There’s no shame in his words - He smiles as he secured the braid with a green hair tie, and once it’s secure he flicks it over the other male’s shoulder.

Suga couldn’t help but laugh at the flush overcoming Asahi’s face, before he found their foreheads resting together. It’s a sweet embrace, and Suga loves it. His laughter diminishes into a soft grin, and he moved to nuzzle his nose against the other male’s.
