✧. "𝙸 𝙿𝙸𝙽𝙺𝚈 𝙿𝚁𝙾𝙼𝙸𝚂𝙴, 𝙽𝙾 𝚂𝙷𝙾𝙿 𝚃𝙰𝙻𝙺," she says sheepishly, already regretting questioning her decision to approach him during the festivities. "it's just been a minute. and i wanted to say HI!" a slight pause. she sucks her lips between her lips for a brief moment before her brow knits and she tries to smile convincingly.
these days are some of the LAST of the start-of-year lull in the theatre season and jemima would be lying if she said she didn't miss her director as much as her castmates. he was cantankerous and finicky and she'd had more than one outburst directed at him over the years, but she admired him all the same.
a delicate and terrible secret which jemima hid well was that her love could go no further than her own ego. this was the soft, rotten bit at the center of her sweetness. ( there must be something wrong with me, she would reflect, that i can even think of hurting someone i dote upon; or is it that there is something wrong in doting upon someone i hate? ) the things she loves are simply MIRRORS in which she sees her own reflection. and like knows like, so she feels a similar brokenness in jonathan. "so, y'know. hi. i guess. how-how are you? how are things?"
familiarity runs so deeply through his bones, the marrow shakes at the thought of being here. his suit, dutifully picked out with the help of his best friend, sits snug at his waist and shoulders— it definitely wasn't of the man he'd become during this life, without memories of the old one, but it certainly screamed in echoes of that very one which had passed. " where's the cape batman? " he asks, announcing his presence behind the boy and his mother, picking the two out of the crowd moments earlier. he supposes he should explain how he recognized them, but as there were very little children here to begin with, even less with batman masks, he need only make an educated guess on the identity of the woman holding him. his best friend. and sometimes, a partner in crime when he wasn't buried in steel scraps, and work. " you look great, odette. "
event two . 𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘴 & 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵
a mask is donned and one loses themselves.
easter passes with little applause, the children in town taking part in the year easter egg hunt across town. the adults look forward, more, to the event announced at the weekend's end.
jonathan mackenzie, director of the prince of maldonia theatre corps, announces a gala to raise funds for the upcoming musical. he claims it will be one better than any year before, and the title will be released on the night of - where a signup list for auditions will be posted. as with all things in the theatre - there will be an air of mystery for the event as the theme is announced as a masquerade.
the night comes quickly, and all who wish to attend flock to the emerald city art gallery - the venue for the gathering. tickets are $20 a person, with drinks being an additional charge throughout the evening, but the night is sure to have great entertainment and excitement, as even for a fundraiser the mackenzies have left no expense spared.
the masquerade proves to flicker pointed memories for many, as the memory of the masked ball that had marked king midas's 20th year of reign. six months before the curse swept across the enchanted forest, he'd invited all those across the lands - his only rule that all magic be left at the door. to enforce this, he had a spell made to ensure no magic could be used within the ballrooms.
with that we announce our second official event - or rather events! threads can take place either at midas's masquerade ( tagged ef.midasmask ) or the charity masquerade ( tagged ef.musicalmask ). any threads from previous event should now be dropped, unless pre-plotted, in which case we ask you begin to finish those up.
the fundraiser masquerade event takes place april 15th, but both events ic will run from april 10 - 26 ( based upon interest ). we'd love to see edits of your muses' costumes for both!
before dawn breaks on the first day of spring - the gardens of enchanted falls are filled with uninvited guests. they dressed up warmly, with their hoods up to protect them both from the chill in the air and the possibility of their identities being discovered. while they passed through the gardens with little interest, tripping over a few stray vines on occasion, careful not to damage any blooms in their travels. the lights on their phones marked their path, but between them only whispers were shared.
when they reached the heart of the garden - kore's bloom itself, they wasted no time in pulling a few petals from the base of it, where they were sure it would not be noticed. when they completed their task, they left the garden as quiet as they had arrived.
the day past with little consequences of their actions. the spring festival continued on, and they worked hard to keep things on schedule for their planned party in the woods. when dusk fell, they ventured out - sending out texts to any and all they could, and setting up shop in a hidden little spot far from town - but right by the waterfall.
as the night went on the party grew wild, paralleling the calmer events of the kore bloom celebration. none would remember in the morning whose idea it had been, but the teens ( along with a scattered few partygoers ) ignored the long remembered warnings in their minds forbidding them from doing so and went into the water - and with them fell a few of the stolen petals.
when the clock struck midnight, the magic of the waterfall was angry to be disturbed, and cursed those in it's reach all to remember only their worst memory.
those who admired spring and her beauty, choosing to stay within the gardens in rapture of the bloom were gifted, rather than cursed, to remember their most beloved memory.
and with that our first event ends! feel free to wrap up threads ( no rush ), and begin other ones with the new plot drop in mind! feel free to write out those best/worst memories either as self paras or in threads.

in the heart of town is a garden filled with flowers that exist no where else in this world. each year as the clock strikes midnight on the spring solstice, in the centre of the gardens blooms the midnight flower of kore. said to be a sign of spring come again, many residents flock to spot the beautiful event.
of course, others simply attend for the parties. kore's festival begins with the bloom, but it doesn't end there. during the day, residents in town can visit the gardens for refreshments and stores across town take advantage - many throwing spring cleaning sales, and all the food joints in town compete for who can create the best spring themed food.
the gardens are fill of residents each night, and on the night of the midnight bloom officials tend to turn a blind eye on any bad behaviour.
the closer one is to the midnight flower when it blooms, the more clear their dreams may be.
from deep within bones scarred by a life which he could no longer recall, something about old friends– whether from then or now– drove a deep longing from his gut. there was someone he was missing ... then and now, and this ball? it only made that longing grow; twisting him up inside as it desperately clambered it's way up his throat. only drowned downward with a steady flood of party drinks down his tongue. " wyatt, " seig greets the other based on attire only, recognizing that look despite the masks which conceal their identities. he supposes he could pick his friend out of a crowd of hundreds with only a glance if he must, but that was simply what made them unique; something which seigfried had come to admire since their time in high school.
