it’s a high fantasy thing bc i am a slut for fantasy but basically is as follows:

in the land of arania, magic and mythos are commonplace. several hundred years ago, humans became capable of using magic, and it has since been integrated into society, for convenience, medicine, science, and most commonly, protection from the magical creatures known as the nihilux, unintelligent and indiscriminate killing machines that only magic can vanquish. those that rise to the occassion and battle the nihilux are known as magic knights.

our story follows the protagonist, rebecca voltus, aged eighteen with great promise in her future, yet she is hindered by her current life as a traveling mercenary with her father, brothers, and sister. though her family is kind to her, she feels she needs to embark on her own and face herself and the world, and she sets out on her journey with vague intent of becoming a magic knight. she finds herself upon a magical structure and is overwhelmingly compelled to enter, finding herself in a labyrinth of magical creatures, riddles, and mazes. with the help of an unlikely ally, she reaches the end of the labyrinth and gains the power of a great being of lightning. after gaining such a power, she believes herself worthy to set out to be a magic knight. she seeks a magic knight academy, and eventually enrolls in a school headed by the renowned magic knight hawthorne hemlocke and begins her training as a magic knight.

^^^ (that’s just a basic plot synopsis.) that was kinda hard to write tbh just cause i didn’t want to reveal a bunch of my plans or big reveals or anything but i promise you it’s more interesting than it sounds !!

the series will explore many topics, all tracing back to the main theme of family, whether by birth or by choosing, displayed as something to seek and to cherish. countless families in this series have suffered greatly, but always find themselves at each others’ sides again.

in addition to such are the effects of imperialism. as the story continues it will begin to reveal the politics of arania, ruled by three world powers: the dahua empire, the ledzelmyan union, and the church of the seven knights, all showcasing the various forms it may take, and how that affects the victims of it through racism, xenophobia, antisemitism, etc

due to the fact that rebecca is jewish, the story shines a spotlight on antisemitism and diaspora very heavily, and how this has skewed her perception of the world in a way that others may never understand. her journey is one of both knowledge of the world and magic as well as self-discovery.

with all that said i think i’ve got a lot of cool things floating around in my head right now and with such a fun cast of characters ?? wow!!!!
