Peter Russell is a man at his wits end: his wife has been abducted and the police are doing all they can to find her, but her abductor, who they have in custody, is refusing to reveal where he has imprisoned her. When the man accused unexpectedly dies, Russell realises that he must now do whatever it takes to save her and in sheer desperation tries the only option he believes is open to him: he pushes himself to near death, in order to crossover and follow that soul into Hell, to hopefully find the soul amongst the many suffering in the pit of despair, and obtain the information required to find his Lydia and save her. In doing so Russell risks his own life and chases the soul through the many domains of Hell: the domains of the violent; the liars and the treacherous; the deceitful; the racists, xenophobes and bigots; the murderous; those who hunt God’s creations to extinction; the child abusers; and the warmongers. Encountering in the abyss the many beasts and tormentors that roam the domains bringing pain and suffering to the damned. In Hell he unexpectedly finds souls who are willing to help him on his quest, including a holy man, saving lost souls in the pit of despair. His love for his wife pushes Russell to suffer with the condemned, as he searches desperately for that soul across the domains, and which ultimately brings him face to face with the Devil himself.
