#edugood

Thanks to TED Talks I've found inspiration for the 2015 edition of Project365 for #edugood started by Krissy Venosdale (@venspired), which I’ve been a part of for the past two years.

For almost 730 consecutive days I’ve taken a picture celebrating all that is good about education, about my family, and about community. I’ve been very open about my professional and personal life, inviting students, parents, my colleagues, and complete strangers to experience what I see every day. I’ve shared my photos on Instagram, on Flickr, on Twitter, and here on Tumblr (all with the help of IFTTT recipes). And while certain days I struggled to see the good and be the good as an educator, husband, and father, I stuck with #edgood.

This year Krissy and I spoke about the 2015 version of Project365. We talked about what worked well and what were some of the struggles. We talked about how we could involve others in our mission of spreading edugoodness. And we talked about new tools we could use to help people share their experiences.

One of the big changes to Project365 for #edugood is the elimination of daily themes and the introduction of a monthly theme. In talking with other teachers, it was clear that having a daily theme limited our creativity. It also made some of us fall behind and feel like we had to play catch up. There was also a sense that each image shared for the theme had to somehow outdo the one previously shared. Krissy and I want teachers (and students) to feel free to participate in this project in all the ways that work for them. 

So based on Krissy’s suggestion, we’re starting out 2015 thinking about creativity. The theme is so open that you’ll have to be creative - get it?
