Twenty Years and Counting...
My name is Stacie Pearson, and twenty years ago, I started my professional journey in education. With a diploma from UCLA in my hand, I returned to my native stomping grounds of San Diego. Here, I secured a position teaching Sixth Grade within SDUSD. At the time, I had no way of knowing how much teaching Sixth Grade would change me.
Sixth graders are great. They are stretching their wings of independence while not quite wanting to fully leave the nest. They have a thirst for knowledge with a basic understanding of how the world works. Best of all, they are still optimists regarding the world and have a passion to see it improve. For nineteen continuous years, I have had the privilege of teaching Sixth Grade English. Some years this has been coupled with Seventh or Eighth Grade English. Other years, I have been the Art Teacher or Yearbook Advisor, both titles which came with an increase in my personal organization and creativity. However, my favorite pairing has been Sixth Grade English with Social Studies, particularly Ancient Civilizations. Thus, I am here. I’m adding my Social Studies Credential to my Single Subject English Credential and Multiple Subject Credential.
