Another 1948 Westinghouse school chart. At about this time, the Yukawa meson (nowadays called the pion) was only just being disambiguated from the cosmic–ray or Anderson meson (nowadays called the muon, and understood to be a sort of heavy analogue of the electron). This chart was created long, long before the arising of the “quark” — at least in nuclear physics terms. Whereas to a geologist a thousand years is very little, to a nuclear physicist, 10⁻¹⁸ second is an appreciable period of time.

But I got suddenly baffled by RoL's fandom lack of knowledge about Nightingale's times, specifically about the queer history of those times. Now I understand how come the "sexually repressed gay" trope in fanfics is still a serious thing. I have a half-written meta about the phenomenon, that now has gone completely down the drain, but I will attach the relevant part of it, just for the lulz.

Folks are trying to bring up the past as a concrete evidence against gay!NIghtingale headcanon. Either because, "Well, it's the past, he is upper-class, most likely he was trying to be… normal", or because, "It would make him a rather stereotypical gay." Well, yes, by the 2020s standards. But guess what, not by the standards of the 1920s. And don't let me start about the posh gays of the time. Oooh, blimey!

So, for everyone…

"Queer London" by Matt Houlbrook and "The Heart in Exile" by Rodney Garland. The former is a non-fiction about gay men's lives in London during the 1920s-1950s, criminalisation, cruising, cottaging, gay-bars, gay-clubs for the upper crust — stuff like that. The latter is a fiction novel, set in the 1950s London, written by a gay author. You know, just for a start.

“Spit-roast” is a position in which someone (male or female) has a cock in their mouth and another in their vagina or ass. This falls under the “double penetration” umbrella but is more specific as to which holes are filled.

All spit-roasts count as double penetration (though some do not acknowledge it as such) but not all double penetration counts as spit-roasts.
