Inside the ferry, Tammy worried.

Was she worried about Ed? Sure. Cops already tried pinning a murder on them, not to mention the actual murder that happened. But beyond that something else made her uneasy.

She wasn't blind, she knew the stories surrounding Bright Falls. Surrounding Cauldron Lake. Alan Wake and his wife. Thomas Zane and Barbara Jagger. Artists the four of them. She could see the parallels.

A spouse missing.

A spouse drowned.

Tammy growled at the computer screen, frustrated. The typing sounds coming from Ed's own laptop stopped in question.

"Why is it so hard to write a book?"

"Wake's agent again?"

"Fucker threatened me if I spoke to his widow!"

"Sir, this is a true crime book, ever heard of it?"

"I know!"

As she deflated in anger, Ed approached, a hand on her back.

"You know, we can always go where the mystery started."

Tammy looked up with a raised eyebrow, her scheduled work trip sounding almost exciting on his voice. Better than going alone, at least.
