My NYU Community: Rubin Hall
Finding a place in NYU can be difficult. With over 20,000 undergraduate students, the school can seem like an endless stream of unfamiliar faces. And trying to balance adjusting to dorm living, academic obligations, and making new friends can seem quite the task.
One of the ways I found community was through my freshman dorm: Rubin Hall. From attending events put on by the dorm, to studying in the lounge, I was able to meet some amazing people that made my freshman year a great one. If you need proof, here’s a cute photo of my friends and I eating cupcakes in Rubin:
If I were to give any advice regarding finding your community, I’d say that the dorms are your best bet as a freshman. Everyone around you is going through the same thing- homesickness, nervousness, and anxious to meet new people as well. Reaching out to them will undoubtedly change your year for the better.

Hi im an EDST major and you don't seem to have EDST listed as a program on your course feedback page.
Do you have any feedback? We can add it on.

NYU Dining
Exploring NYU’s many cafeterias was one of the best parts of my first semester at school. It was a great way to meet up with friends, take a study break, or just grab a cookie! My personal favorite dining hall is Lipton Hall- with their delicious cookies in addition to their healthy options, I found myself there at least three times a week. Make sure to check it out!
Additionally, I often took trips to get fruit and yogurt from Weinstein’s market, called “Sidestein.” Planning my breakfasts in advance helped to save time in the morning and get a delicious first meal of the day!

Department Love: Ed Studies
Why do I love Education Studies department? I love Ed Studies because it surrounds you with advisors who care about you beyond academics. I love Ed Studies because it has professors who are always available, always so willing to chat about everything during office hours, and always so passionate about education (their passion becomes contagious and inspires you to make a change!). I love Ed Studies because we are a exclusive major that not many universities offer. I love Ed Studies because it is so small which allows you to become family with your peers. I love Ed Studies because when I transferred to NYU, I immediately found home within my Ed Studies department and cohort. Somehow I knew it was where I had to be!

Home Away From Home: Managing Stress
One of the biggest struggles I had as a freshman was maintaining level-headedness when things got tough. Whether it was midterms, social stress, or just adjusting to life at NYU, my worrisome thoughts can sometimes get the best of you.
The best way to handle stress while at college is to find an outlet: go on a walk, head to a yoga class, eat at your new favorite ice cream shop- whatever you need to improve your mood in your new city. #treatyourself ! It does you wonders in the long run.
