Dominic wandered through the stalls of the German style outdoor market, admiring all of the crafts. It was impressive the skill that it took to make these things, and while he wasn’t exactly crafty he did enjoy having something technical to do with his hands. He’d already done the bulk of his Christmas shopping, but now he was looking for something unique to get his mother, or whatever caught his eye as perfect for one of his partners or sisters. He chuckled at the thought of his mother having to disrupt her perfect decor for whatever little trinket he got her. At the next stall someone was examining an interesting piece. Dominic came closer for a good look. “Wow, I was also looking for something like that. And it looks really well made.” He directed the second comment to the vendor with a smile.

          Madison hadn’t been to a costume party in so long. It seemed like a gamble in a place like Edgewood where weird things always seemed to happen anyway. She really didn’t want to accidently get caught up in some random curse or something and be stuck in her costume until someone managed to undo the curse. Maybe that was just for the movies, but with Edgewood, she never knew. Still, she kept her costume simple: a zombie. Lots of people seemed out and dressed in some funky costumes, which made the night more enjoyable. She turned to the person beside her. “Okay, I know you’re supposed to ask what the person you’re talking to is, but isn’t it more fun to talk about what you think other people are dressed like? Sure, that person’s a witch, but what is that?” she pointed to an intricate costume that probably came from a television show she didn’t watch.

When she’d mentioned to Kelsey the kids could go ice skating, she hadn’t realized just how long a 90-minute time slot was. She had spent the afternoon shepherding four children through the markets, running with the girls through the Winter Garden lights while the teenagers-- she still shuddered at that word-- trailed behind them at a distance she was sure helped them feel independent. But now the kids and their friends were on the ice, and she Karen was left staring down the long end of an hour and a half, wishing the drink she was nursing to keep her warm was something stronger than hot chocolate. But she couldn’t leave them, so she sighed and rested her elbows against the ice rink walls and took another sip from her cup. 

Beatrice resisted the urge to sigh into her drink. She was having fun. Really, she was. Or, she had been, until she’d been ditched. She knew that she should probably be more upset about the fact that her friends had dragged her out on this bar crawl and then ditched her, but she wasn’t. She’d known going into the night that there was a chance that she’d be ditched, which is why she’d opted out of the suggested group costume and had thrown together her own costume. She was supposed to be Poison Ivy, but she wasn’t sure how well she was pulling it off. 

“Hey, thanks for coming to the carnival!” Charlotte greeted. “Have you had a chance to check out the raffle prizes yet? We’re selling tickets for $1 each or 15 for $10 if you’re interested.”

Maxine let out a groan from behind the raffle ticket booth as another top ten hit played. “Can someone please request something a little more original? I am going insane over here listening to the same ten songs, over and over.”

Phoenix wove through the crowd, holding her hands out to keep someone from running into her and sharing her fate. The blood of a red snowcone was soaking through her hair and dripping onto her yellow shirt, probably making for a terrifying sight. From fifty feet up its a miracle that the snowcone didn’t do damage like hail, a sign of wrath from the child who thought it would be fun to throw.
