This consummate urban artist is making amazing great strides in becoming a heavyweight in the pop and urban genre in the UK and elsewhere, including some very interested heavyweight ears within US A&R departments. The best kept UK urban secret is now out and people are very interested in this self-starting, dedicated urban powerhouse.  Eddy’s work famously mirrors his personal life, from his gritty upbringing in the streets of London, England, to his experiences of love, lust and betrayal. His new single “Brand New” is about being in a relationship and reassuring your ‘chosen one’ that you want to spend your life with them and that you want them despite their insecurities. As he says himself “ It’s that you want THEM even though they keep bringing up your past, but you tell them ‘ I WANT YOU’, forever.”  We decided to find out more about this loved up man with a Take 5... When did you realise that you wanted to be a music artist? What or who has inspired you ?  I’m not really sure when tbh it kind of just happened. Haha I know it sounds cliche but I’ve always said that I never found music it found me. I’ve always been around music since I was born -  I come from a musical background so I couldn’t get away from it even if I wanted to! What has inspired me is the stuff I go through -  everything I sing about is literally 100% the truth I don’t sing about any bull-sh*t just to make a cool a** song out of it. I actually am who I portray to be and  I’m really proud of where I’ve come from and the person it has made me.  Who, living or dead, would you dream of collaborating with? Michael Jackson - seriously that’s a no brainer he’s literally the goat man -  but realistically it would have to be Noah 40 & Drake I gotta pay homage: these two made a sound that everyone pretty much uses (including me). It would just be so good to see their approach in making a record plus I know the pay cheque’s going to be good hahaha …. Tell us about your single –'Brand New'-  what is the song about? It’s a song about re-assurance I think it’s common that in relationships we tend to let our insecurities get in the way and the song is a selection of things we probably all have had to go through in a relationship. If you listen to it back now you’ll probably hear the song in a complete different way. https://youtu.be/Qsko5gK6POk Tell us five things you love about the city you live in, and why…… 1  London is amazing it’s probably the most multicultural place in the world so many different people from different backgrounds with a story to tell 2  The city never sleeps there’s always something to experience here it really helps when I’m lacking inspiration 3 So many amazing talented creative people to work with in all fields I really need to utilise it really 4 London is definitely the place to chase your dreams there’s a lot of opportunities here which is a change from the town I’m originally from  5 I can’t really think of anything else at this moment in time  What are you most looking forward to this year? We got some crazy things -  I’m kinda excited but we will get to that soon! Although his style is very much self-made, Eddy takes on undertones of some of his biggest influences: Drake (“he made the whole lo-fi sounds cool”), Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins and Kanye West. Eddy Calvert didn’t set out to be a performer– he started producing rap records for local artists when an ex-girlfriend heard him singing in the shower and, with astonishment, said 'why aren't YOU doing this for real”?
