[LIVE UPDATE] Symposium on #SustainableDevelopment 2017 #ssd2017 20 April 2017 (Thursday) Evening session: [Jupiter Meeting Room]: UM Living Labs - multi disciplinary Researchers involved: Faculty of Medicines, Faculty of Science, UMCares, APIUM, Faculty of Engineering Some interesting points shared: 1. Homes for active aging: design of the house would suit for the growing aging population in Malaysia and enhance their daily activities to keep healthy lifestyle 2. We could raise awareness on cancer and health through Cancer Farming Activities 3. UM received the status of Regional Center of Expertise (RCE) for Central Semenanjung at Bukit Fraser. Activities: awareness on climate change, Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) 4. Imarah Green Project' - Surau APIUM is now in progress towards becoming Eco Surau for UM: instilling awareness and practices on greening initiative for APIUM and surau users: cleanliness, imarah project, arts, plantation, green wall, vertical gardening, rainwater harvesting, green khutbah, energy saving appliances, green volunteerism, solar panel, eco cooling system (aircond hanya dibuka pada waktu solat Jumaat sahaja) 5. Zero Waste Campaign: Malaysia produces waste in 5 days in a sum of KLCC towers: we are a wasteful society (Malaysia among the largest producer of waste in the world especially food waste). Remember, what we throw away could eventually haunt us back in a form of pollution and toxic. Most important things, separate waste at source. Up to now: 550 ton converted (RM97,757 profit). You can bring your recyclable items to the Intelligent Recycle Center at PASUM (near Dewan Kuliah, next to Rumah Universiti) to collect points that can be redeemed to buy items, foods at select cafetaria in campus: APIUM & 6th Residential College cafeteria. 5Rs: refuse, rethink, reduce, reuse, recycle. For Muslim ladies, do not conform to the fashion and style of your tudung and be wasteful by having 10 tudungs instead of you actually can have 1 which is enough. #zerowaste #ecosurau (at Kompleks Pengurusan Penyelidikan Dan Inovasi Universiti Malaya)
