Heyo. Saw the post about dante not liking laces cuz he canāt figure them out and went hm, headcanon potential.
See, certain neurodivergent people, such as dyslexics (*points at myself*) have difficulty doing tasks that require keeping track of sideways, upsidedown, or whatever. So like, I have a simple way of tying my own shoes but I know thereās a more common, complicated way to do it.
Anyways, the prompt goes that; Maybe Dante canāt do certain tasks but completely overlooks it. He canāt tie his shoes because keeping track of all those knots and twirls makes his eyes feel upside down. He canāt do the military-style bedsheet tuck-in that Neroās done before, because it ends up reversed. He canāt imagine wearing something like Vergilās vest with all the clasps and buttons that has to be undone and redone. Thereās all of these little things that Dante justā¦doesnāt do, and its just Dante being Dante.
But yeah, fun little characterization prompt, I guess. Not saying Dante is dyslexic, but itās fun to speculate and wonder. Especially with all the autistic Vergil headcanons already floating around. I like the idea of Dante being his own flavor of neurodivergent and just living with it cuz he already knows heās not Normalā¢ļø (ironic, considering dyslexia is a human quality). Meanwhile, Vergil saw one (1) meme about being autistic and begins to question his sense of reality.
im so bad at answering asks.
I am also neurodivergent and dyslexic! Both reading-wise and I have left-right dyslexia. meaning. no matter how hard i try. no matter what trick you teach me. i cannot remember. it's gotten to the point where i am going to, legitimately, tattoo and L and an R on my hands so i can remember. I told my mom who also has it and we're going to do it together.
i honestly think all of the spardas are autistic coded [as well as Trish] because... well. they're not human. they aren't going to get the Secret Neurodivergent Codes of another fucking species. We can barely understand dogs and cats body language, and they've evolved alongside us! More dogs, but you know! I think they all struggle and while I don't think they have the same genetics that make them autistic [well, maybe. eva. went out of her way to fuck a roach, she's a bit Out There], per se, functionally they are autistic because they're not human enough to fully get it.
there's a lot of things dante knows he can't do. and he does definitely feel bad, or like a fuckup, or a slob [people joke about it and he definitely feels a lot of guilt/insecurity about it but you keep that deep down inside until you Die. if you die. one day.]
i think nero at first would be so annoyed about it but later realized. oh. he's not being lazy or weaponizing his incompetence. he genuinely just. doesn't get it. and he's trying really really hard.
he has to step back and be like. okay. dante really is trying. has to really muster that patient dad energy to try and help find a method that dante can do, even if it's not the normal one. like when you need to eat, but you're not able to make yourself do it, because it means dealing with dishes... then just use a paper plate, or go animal style and eat it with your bare hands. messy? wasteful? maybe. but sometimes we can't be perfect.
and dante is far from perfect, but nero's learning to be okay with it.
it's the man he's always wanted to be his father. he needs to be patient. with him. for him. for vergil, too.
