God is Sovereign!
The Word “Sovereign” has been echoing in my head the past few weeks. It seems to keep coming up in different studies and in discussions. In the Women’s Bible Study I just finished teaching we discussed how God’s Sovereignty was present throughout the Book of Ecclesiastes. Ecclesiastes 7:13-14 it says, “Consider the work of God: who can make straight what he has made crooked? In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man may not find out anything that will be after him” (Ecc.7:13-14 ESV) Every moment that we have been alive, from the second we were conceived. God designed us, He nit us together in the womb, He created us! Ecclesiastes tells us he knows the path of the wind and how the body is formed in the womb (Ecc. 11:5). We cannot understand the work of God, nor how He designs us or our days. Each day and each breath is designed with a purpose for us. He weaves and orchestrates each day. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV). What a wonderful reminder that when we are going through things we can fall back on the idea that God is Sovereign. He is in control even when we are not! And not only does He have a plan for us but it is one to prosper and not harm us! He is Faithful to us, even when we are not! I love how 1 Chronicles puts it, "Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head over all.” (1 Chronicles 29:11) We have countless friends and family we walk with through really awful situations and we don’t always have to have all the answers, we can rely on the fact that God is sovereign in all situations and He has a plan for us and those we are walking with. God is sovereign!
