How do you know if you've made the right decision? Is it supposed to be painful to try and do the right thing?
Sometimes.. it is, unfortunately.Ā
We live in a world where weāre constantly bombarded with corruption, violence, told that whatās wrong is right and whatās right is wrong.
When it comes down to making an x(category: medical, ethical, moral, financial, etc) decision, instead of being simple thereās all these grey areas that put you in doubt.Ā
And then once youāve made a choice, or at least you think you have, the fear of what others will think or say and even do starts to nag at the back of your brain. You try to ignore it because, hey, youāre a freaking person who has the same right as anyone else has to make your OWN decisions in life. But that doesnāt matter. Because before you know it, youāre editing your choice, breaking it down, compromising or even allowing others to make the decision for you because you canāt bring yourself to do it because.. what if?
If thereās ever a reason to doubt yourself itās almost ALWAYS because āwhat ifā.Ā
Mainly, what if it ISNāT the RIGHT choice?
Or, what if this decision hurts someone I care about?
And lastly, what if, because thereās an end to everything, it doesnāt matter what is done or said?
DAMN YOU WHAT IFS!
But honestly, dearest, it ultimately comes down to your conscious.
Is the choice youāre making in harmony with your own code of ethics, sense of morality, right and wrong?
If the answer is yes, yet it still hurts.. this only reminds you of what kind of person you are. A loving, merciful and considerate human being.Ā
Itās because we care about others, that when we make a choice that might hurt othersā feelings, we hesitate.Ā
Does this mean we shouldnāt care, so that we can make decisions easily?
No, because then weād lose all sense of consideration for others and even ourselves, even though we think weāre doing ourselves a favor, and thus lose our humanity.
SO! Albeit, sometimes it sucks to do the right thing.. in the long run itās whatās best for you and others. I say others because even if it might hurt them at the moment, it was a decision made with the intention to do the RIGHT thing. Whether or not they accept that, do not let them burden you.Ā
As far as making the RIGHT choice.. weāre human beings that make mistakes daily. So even if we donāt make the right choice at first, weāll learn and make sure to decide right next time. So donāt fret too much over it if you happen to make the wrong choice.
The best you can do is:Ā Think about it.Ā Talk it over with those you trust, even experts if necessary and finally make a decision.Ā
I hope this helped. Itās also a āin generalā type of response. It usually depends on the situation. Life or death? Even the categories I mentioned, sometimes the typical RIGHT choice isnāt whatās best for YOU or others. Thatās why itās best to think it over but donāt hesitate for too long. āThe longer you wait the worse it will becomeā is almost always true. But thereās also a time for everything, hence the necessity in being tactful. But then thereās situations where you have to make haste and being straightforward is the only way to get through to a person or even yourself.
So yeah.Ā
Damn, I typed a lot.Ā
But srsly, these two questions are probably in our top 10 life questions weāll almost always ask ourselves on a daily basis.Ā
