Taking the concept of 3D printing to a whole different level, master beekeeper, Robin Theron, and The Ebeling Group realized their ’3B printing project’. They assembled as many as 80.000 bees for their coup – a bottle and a bust made of honey. Since bees build their honeycomb inwards, they had to be given a framework on which they could build, so the team had to begin with an inverse scaffolding – a see-through mould made of plastic in which the bees could work their magic. Several colonies were involved to finish the process but after about 6 weeks, ‘nature’s 3D printer’ had created an impressive oeuvre. The project was part of Dewar’s latest promotion of their new Highlander Honey whiskey.
