Ah, yes. An unsuspecting witch.
The perfect victim for shenanigans!!
Lynn had been careful and so very quiet. Her bare feet didn't make a sound upon the cool grass as she crept up behind Mort, slowly stepping over any leaves or twigs that might break the suprise. One foot went out, then set down, then she slowly set some weight in it, then the second step followed. The mischievous girl stared at the back of Mort's head, making sure the enchantress didn't turn her gaze behind her. There was nothing to see, and nothing suspicious going on!
Lynn's heart sped up as she got closer and closer to Mort but her steps remained cautious, knowing giving into her excitement too soon would fumble everything. She was so close.
Then finally Lynn stood over Mort, pausing just a moment to savor the rush of being on the edge before she dove down, throwing herself against Mort's back and looping her arms around her shoulders.
Lynn giggled at her triumph, having accomplished something she was sure no one else could've- She caught a witch!!! With nothing but her own bare hands and cunning, to boot!
"Will you grant me wishes now??"
Lynn leaned forward to see Mort's face better, her own eyes bright with hope and her voice dancing with playfulness. Mort may as well be as good as a genie seeing as Lynn was a simple creature who wanted simple things. Right now Lynn's pockets and stomach were empty- surely Mort could read her mind and fulfill her wish! Lynn was certain of it!
Lynn was a precious thing. Cute, even. Especially when she didn't realize that the witch was already fully aware of her presence.
It was clear to Mortem that Lynn's prowling around was intended to be sneaky. Thus, the witch played ignorant. Her gaze lidded halfway as she stood out front of her cabin, idly watching the scenery as if contemplating something to herself. Really, she was just too focused to bother with an expression with the young woman sneaking up behind her.
She mused to herself in her waiting how the human was similar to herself. A blend of extroverted behavior and mannerisms while also being introverted at her core. As if the witch hadn't noticed Lynn's lack of engagement with her fellow mortals. All that time spent with the cursed spirit, the only other human she was aware of was that grumpy boy.
And besides... who in their right mind would willingly venture forth to risk their time with a witch? Lynn's nonchalance over the matter was precisely why she earned Mortem's favor time and time again. It wasn't a lack of respect, it was just a mutual enjoyment of one another's company. Admittedly, it was nice.
Being pounced upon from behind, Mortem blinked, feigning that she knew the other had been there the whole while.
"Ah. You've caught me." Mortem replied dutifully, but she didn't the side of her fist landing in the palm of her hand. Totally got her.
Reaching back, Mortem hoisted Lynn upon her back more comfortably. There was one particular reason why Lynn tended to show up here and the witch had an inkling she knew what the young lass wanted. She already began walking her towards the small orchard in the forest where apples and pears tended to grow.
"Will you grant me wishes now??"
Her head tipped slightly, turning to look upon the mortal's face with a smirk. A gleam arose within her gaze as she looked upon the freckled face, "Wishes? Don't get greedy, now." She mused.
"Be careful who you say such a thing to, lovely. You may get more than you bargained for." Mortem faced forward, navigating through the trees until the small orchard became visible. She trailed over to the pear tree to allow Lynn to fetch herself her favorite treat.
Her gaze swept off to the side as she stood still, the echoes of a ghost upon the wind.
A memory of a bleeding blade flickered to mind before her focus casually returned to Lynn.
"Has your wish now been granted? Or do you desire further?" Her head tilted a little as she looked up, idly watching the rays of sun spearing through the leaves as she awaited the mortal to fetch her bundle of fruit.
