I’ve been buying on eBay for years and in all my experience, there’s only been two sellers who combine shipping on multiple orders without you having to ask. (I don’t mean heavy orders that need to be in giant boxes, I mean things like flimsy photos or magazines.)
There’s two wonderful sellers who sell old magazines and if I purchase two or more from them, they combine shipping and refund the difference (for instance, if shipping was only $3 each, and I paid $6 for shipping in total not counting tax, they’ll refund me the extra $3 when they combine the items, because honestly, the mags only need an envelope and some cardboard, shipping is not THAT much).Â
I realize some sellers over-charge for shipping on purpose (whatever the case may be... trying to squeeze a few extra bucks out of you, I don’t know... I’m not talking about international shippers, either. I mean US shipping for small packages like envelopes that barely weigh anything... yes it depends on location, and the carrier, too, and shipping method... first class, etc., and some carriers charge more than others and some sellers do have to pay extra charges out of pocket. It depends). But when I know the shipping charge at checkout was way more than what it says on the envelope when it comes in the mail, I get suspicious.
Sometimes eBay automatically calculates shipping based in your area, but one time, I bought something from a seller based locally here in AZ and I looked on the envelope when it came in the mail, and shipping was $2 less than what I paid. The seller did not automatically refund the difference. I had to message them directly and ask. They were happy to oblige after some reluctance... it was only after I left a neutral review (thus screwing up their otherwise perfect 100% rating) that they agreed to refund me the extra $2, and asked me to change the review from neutral to positive, and of course I decided to return the favor after getting the refund, but getting the right shipping cost shouldn’t be like pulling teeth. I know $2 is not that big of a deal, but still.Â
It should be common sense.Â
Esp. for items that cost me $50 bucks total, paying more than necessary for shipping and handling (plus tax) is shady business at best. I usually have no issues getting refunds. If they don’t automatically combine shipping, I ask, and they always do, but I my point is, I shouldn’t HAVE to ask.Â
I bought four photos from this one seller (who is a tad overpriced, but his items are rare, so it’s understandable). Total came to be $149 ($168 with shipping and tax). Each photo was a small 2.25 x 2.25 transparency that only required a small envelope (I bought from him before) and shipping was only $5.99 each. He shipped the photos out the next day with a shipping total of $23.96, again, for small little photos. He didn’t automatically refund me so I messaged him directly and asked him to combine shipping. He was nice about it and happy to oblige (no problems there), so total was $5.99 for all the photos that he put in one envelope after the refund. But I had to ask him to refund me the difference AFTER he’d shipped it out. It should have been common sense. Like, ‘’Gee, this buyer paid over 20 bucks for a small envelope that only came to be $5 total for shipping charges, but NOPE I’ll just pocket the extra 15 bucks and maybe the buyer will be too gullible to notice.’’Â
THESE PEOPLE I SWEARÂ
If I was a seller and didn’t use all the money the customer paid for shipping, I would automatically refund them the difference without their having to ask. They already paid over a 100 bucks, and sure eBay takes so much % of that, but $149 is enough without having to over-pay for shipping on top of that.Â
So I recently purchased four photos from another seller in Sweden and I bought from her before and she’s wonderful but I just realized that each photo was only $2.25 for standard shipping outside the U.S. (they’re small 5 x 7 photos and she always mails them in one small envelope) and shipping total was $9 because she didn’t automatically combine shipping. I realize international shipping tends to be a little more, esp. with tracking, but eBay literally calculated each photo as $2. Four small 5 x 7 photos in one envelope shouldn’t be $9 even if it is coming from Sweden. If I’m wrong, I’ll eat my hat. But I’m pretty sure it should be about $2 for the whole package... she mails the photos in little letter sized envelopes. I messaged her but she hasn’t responded yet. And I’ve already paid the international fee too (it’s not that much, usually it’s around 3%). I never asked her to refund the difference before from my last two purchases (the shipping charges aren’t on the envelope, so I could never be sure even with all the stamps), but I’m starting to suspect that she overcharges for shipping on purpose.Â
-le sigh- There doesn’t seem to be honest business owners these days...

They package a thin piece of paper in three layers of bubble wrap and tape when a simple envelope and two pieces of cardboard would do (plus it would save on shipping).Â
But they package a breakable Bisque doll in nothing but a thin cardboard box and some popcorn (no bubble wrap or ‘’Fragile, Handle with Care’’ on the front of the package). Naturally, the item arrived damaged.
It seems that everytime I find a nice or original piece of clothing on Ebay, it becomes unavailable for French customers because of something something country restrictions something something. It’s the fourth time in a row. Are leggings and bracelets illegal or something ? Gosh.
ugh I’m so annoyed with this person on Ebay. They bought a necklace from me at the beginning of last week. I usually only have time to ship out orders on Saturday.Â
So, on Saturday I went to take this package to be shipped, and the post office wouldn’t send it because they couldn’t find the address. I messaged the person about it on both Saturday and Sunday and received no answer.
Also, the person emailed me before I emailed them on Saturday to ask if I had sent them a tracking number. I told them about the problem with their address and no answer.
I ended up having time to go to the post office on Monday to send some orders I had just gotten on Sunday, and I took the necklace package as well, just to see if they’d send it at a different post office. They sent it.
So, then I got back and messaged the person and said that I had sent the package finally. No answer.
So then yesterday (Thursday), I got two emails from this person asking what the tracking number is and if I had even sent their package. I explained the situation to them again, since apparently they hadn’t read any of my emails. I told them about the problem with their address and how I finally sent it out on Monday, and that it would take 2-8 business days to get to them. So basically next Thursday at the latest. And if the package didn’t get there in 10 days, then I’d contact the post office. Also, I didn’t purchase tracking, considering this is like a $6 item with free shipping.
The person emails me back today, saying that at first I’d said it would get there Friday (I never said this) and now I’m saying Thursday of next week. And then they were like why won’t you just tell me when you sent it. So I message the person back and tell them when I sent it AGAIN.
So, I hope I don’t receive negative feedback for this just because this person doesn’t actually read the messages I send them.

You know what I hate? When someone buys something from you on eBay and then takes forever to pay. eBay policy is that you have 2 days to pay. And even leaving that issue aside, it's not fair to leave someone hanging after you have bought something from them. Buying something is a promise that YOU will pay them and THEY will ship the item to you.
The most "fun" part to me about this is that in both cases, the people agreed to pay me on a specific date that was outside of that 2-day limit. Which was fine, I don't mind if someone contacts me first (which only one of them did, I had to open an unpaid item claim on the other to get ANY contact from them) and asks for a slightly longer payment period, but then I expect to be paid on the agreed-upon date. Right now I'm looking at cancelling one transaction because the person won the bid for the item 20 days ago and STILL hasn't paid (and by that point all I can say is that they probably don't intend to), and I'm afraid I'll have to cancel another really HUGE one because the person's agreed-upon payment date has come and gone and I have had literally no contact from them. No answers to my messages. No acknowledgement of my invoice. Nothing at all. And in this day and age I find it kind of hard to believe that someone who has access to eBay for shopping doesn't have some kind of access to eBay for sending messages, even if their main computer or phone or whatever has stopped working.
And before anyone starts in on "oh but they're busy" or "oh but they have other bills to pay" and whatnot, I'M BUSY TOO and I HAVE BILLS TO PAY TOO. In fact, it's that eBay money that allows me to pay the bills period because I HAVE BEEN UNEMPLOYED WITH NO INCOME SINCE LAST MAY. So my patience for people who don't honor their side of the contract when they buy something on eBay is pretty much non-existent right now.
I need to rant for a moment. To those of you who do Ebay, please don't have loud annoying music playing on your auctions that is hard to turn off. I was in a nostalgic mood and went looking on Ebay for a toy I had in my childhood. Finding it lead me to other similar auctions, and one all of a sudden started playing loudly "Ebay" by Weird Al Yankovic. While I find his songs hilarious, when I am just in the mood to quietly surf a shopping site, I don't expect loud music to start blaring at me. This is a pet peeve for blog reading too, but most bloggers are kind enough to have the player at easy access to turn off. This seller though had the player all the way at the bottom hidden in an Ebay logo, so hard to freaking spot.
I thought maybe it was a one-off, nope, it was on all their auctions. Why? Just why? A lot of people do their shopping at work or on their down time, music playing is just a turn off. So like I said, if you do auctions or sale sites that offer you the chance to add music, don't do it. It honestly doesn't add to your sales page, unless you are selling music and even then don't have the player autoplay, and it may make you miss a sale if a person isn't that dedicated to getting that item or they may go in search of one on a more quieter page. Ok, rant over, back to surfing, hopefully, on more quieter pages.
So, I have been selling on eBay for some time now, and never had problems. Until today. I sold an item Thursday, and sent it out Saturday, I informed the buyer that I was sending it out as soon as I can. Instead of replying she asked a question, which I of course answered. She was informed that it was shipped on Saturday. Meaning the shipping receipt was printed and I dropped it off at the postal office. After that, it's in USPS' hands to deliver the package. Well those lazy gits didn't even bother to ship it until yesterday. So this girl is jumping down my throat as if I run USPS.Â
Hold on there, let me just call USPS up and tell them to drop what they're doing because you need it.
Also, if you are sending an email, don't say "Hi yes." You aren't on the phone.Â
The world does NOT revolve around you, so take your package and stick it up yer arse!
