other themes: domestic life, ranching, dick owns a dog named poppy bc he's soft like that

notes: this is my contribution to the #easyranch tag!! what if instead of working for nixon nitration works/finding a quiet place in pennsylvania after the war, dick went down south and became a cowboy instead? or what if dick was just a rancher from the start?

i don't think i'll write a fic for this, but if anyone wants to for #bobcollab or just independently, it's totally alright by me and you can reach out if you want :D

also i did this instead of doing my work OR doing requests (i'm so sorry i'm getting to it after this week i swear)

they say you can't foresee the weather but you can stand in the wind you can thank the sky when the cotton grows high curse the dirt when its dead again life is suffering but love and family make hard work in the hot sun okay when the day is done

"so how exactly did you join this ranch and all?"

"it's a long story, but one of my neighbors had lost his cat, so i figured i'd go around and ask the people at that easy ranch thing to see if they'd seen it."

"and?"

"well, they didn't have the cat, but they did have cows- so i made sure to go give them a few pets. i ended up staying the whole afternoon there just sittin' with the sweet things."

"no one noticed?"

"well, this one guy did, but he was real quiet and just let me do my own thing. when it started to get dark he told me it'd be best if i either get a move on or come inside."

"...and i'm assuming you chose the later of those two options."

"well, of course! everyone there was really nice and told me i could stay however long i wanted. they all seemed to like me. so, now i take care of the cows and stuff here."

"you could say they adopted you, haha."

"hah! maybe. it's more like i adopted the cows. those poor babies can't live without me! i'm like their mother- making sure they're all fed and warm at night and that they have all kind of fun things to do. they all love me."

"who, the cows or the guys?"

So for the Cowboy Ron moodboard I thought up some backstory. So Ron is this depressed character who had his heart broken after the person he loved died. Now lives on a ranch no longer believing in love or sharing his feelings. His horses name is Sherman.

What can I say about Liebgott?

His tough ‘big man’ exterior is contradicted by his inner softy. He’s that one guy who always pulls out a guitar (from where, who knows?). His near constant plucking would begin to irritate ol’ Wild Bill, which would only spur Joe on and make him smirk while he fiddled with the strings, he might even start to miss chords or go off beat on purpose just to see a reaction. Lieb is a hard worker and yes, he will definitely roll his eyes at authority figures but he still gets the job done well and on time.

I’d imagine Liebgott began working as a ranch hand in his teen years to provide for his family and just fell in love with the open fields and wild animals, he still sends them most of his pay but he doesn’t see them all that often so he gets pretty sad and moody around holidays and his birthday. The others can tell he’s a bit homesick so they cheer him up with bonfire nights when they can and all but beg him to play his beloved instrument, it keeps his mind busy (which is why he takes it with him everywhere he goes).

Sure, he’s argumentative but all in good fun! Mostly- he may or may not start bar fights and need to have his friends pull him off strangers he claims are disrespectful. When he’s not fighting at bars, he’s sweet talking anything that moves; Joe is a lover and a fighter!
