Berlin Rosenthaler Platz in 2005. Here I was going up and down the U-Bahn Line, coming up onto the street at every station taking a few pictures. I did not know this area very well at the time.
Berlin Waldemarstraße in 2006. The Berlin Wall went along the line of the green fence posts on the left. This section of the road is now built up with high modern blocks.
A view from Liebknechtbrücke towards the newly-opened DDR Museum in 2006. This museum caters for the feeling of ‘Ostalgie’, that is nostalgia for everyday life in the old East German state, especially concerning the consumer products the average DDR household would have had around the home. There is an element of this in the famous movie ‘Goodbye Lenin’, where a boy searches for items his sick mother liked back then, including ‘Spreewald' pickles and ‘Mocha-Fix Gold’ coffee. I always remember his cry of triumph when he finds the ‘Mocha-Fix Gold’! He was played by Daniel Brühl, and that film gave him his first big break.
