I just watched Ang Huling El Bimbo, and I’m sad now.
March 7 2009 was the Eraserheads Final Set concert... people say "Epic" a lot to describe what they ate for lunch, a silly Youtube video or a half funny joke... but that concert was what one can truly call EPIC... specially by the time it rained confetti during Huling El Bimbo. I did not have anyone in my life back then but at that moment, my heart was so full to the brim.
The night was made even more Epic by 2 things... first was the fact that a few months earlier the Eheads had staged a reunion concert that ended abruptly because front man Ely had a heart attack mid way through the set after singing Light Years, a song which is a bout a child missing her mom (& his mom had passed away just a few days prior). Second was that Francis M, the band's friend & collaborator had passed away the day before. They delivered the most solid concert performance I have ever experienced, & when it ended, they sang 3 more unrehearsed songs with no fancy graphics & pyrotechnics, just to stay true to Eheads roots.
My ticket cost over 4k pesos, I could have used media connections to get a free one (oddly enough people who get free tickets to shows are usually the ones who can easily afford them) but I wanted to experience it as a fan & it was so worth every centavo : )
