I guess something I just want to tell young people is:
What you’re experiencing now? It sucks. These problems these issues? All the things you are going through, you don’t deserve and it’s valid.
And I’m here to tell you it gets better. And not in the way that ‘you’ll be happy forever with no problems hoo hah!’
The ‘it gets better’ slogan has a catch.
What you are going through right now? Isn’t what you are going to be going through in 5 years. It’s going to be a whole new set of issues and fears and problems.
But. Things CHANGE. It’s what happens in life. it’s up to you to make those changes meaningful. You have to make those awful feelings you are having and going through now, into something that propels you forward in your life. The more you experience, the more rounded and capable you are to deal with what’s ahead.
The problems you encounter as you age are nothing compared to the raw human experience along the way. You never know who you are going to meet, what you are going to do. Let the unknown spur joy and excitement, not fear.
You are not defined by your past.
You are not defined by what people tell you you’re worth
You are not defined by likes or comments or followers.
You are not defined by whatever is going on in your life.
You are not defined by your trauma and your mistakes.
You are MORE then what you are going through and what you are GOING to go through
Your value is not held in the hands of other people. It’s not held in the hands of anyone but yourself. Value yourself and take as many steps forward as you can, as fast or as slow as you need to. Everyone goes at their own pace.
It gets better. It gets worse. Life is a complicated cocktail of bad and good experiences. It’s an up and down, and believe me, the ups are worth the downs.
