Dynamic Relationship Mechanical Drawing.
This drawing ties my initial chosen research into an ecology, industry and community on the River Ouse, our designated site of research and interest this year.
Ecology - the migration of the brown trout in symbiosis with the parasitic fresh water mussel larvae, the latter which latches to the gills and fins of the trout, dropping off into the sediment of the riverbed between 1-6 weeks. I have chosen to represent this as a coloured graph of migration between the months of October-January running along the drawn river in plan.
Industry - I became interested in the relationship between the independent industries on the River Ouse: the cement industry tied the chalk and clay industry together, through the catalyst which is the River, a generator for such industries by means of transport, importing and exporting minerals. Chalk was quarried and extracted from Offham Chalk Pit and transferred from quarry to the river by means of a funicular tramway system, negotiating the height of the quarry from the river level. Clay was taken from the ground at Piddinghoe, south of the river to Offham. The cement industry was located nearby to Lewes. However, the cement works I became particularly interested in was in Beddingham, for it also had a tramway which transferred the cement to a wharf on the riverbank, which one could imagine was once a social platform for these industrial communities of men who worked the landscape.
Community - snce my research into industries on the river led to the river community of men who worked within the industries I have looked into, I further researched the means of transport which carried these communities up and down the river. The drawing shows the movement of sails which would have to be dismantled and erected due to the obstacles of bridges along the river.
