Dylan & Nick

Their friendship is one of the first dynamics the game shows you, and it’s so naturally easy and comfortable right away. Before the horror properly starts, they’re off by themselves in the lodge while everyone else is packing, messing with Jacob by locking him out, joking around, and laughing at each other’s bits. 

Nick spends a lot of the game trying to be what other people expect. He acts tougher around Jacob, awkwardly tries to impress Abi, and then the infection twists all his insecurity into something awful. Dylan, though, feels like someone he can just relax around. Nick’s actor, Evan Evagora, said he sees Nick as bi and that he likes the idea of Nick/Dylan. And when asked who Nick's best friend is, he said Dylan because "he can be most himself with Dylan" and doesn't pretend or put on a front for him, which makes me so soft because Nick's whole thing in the game is that he pretends to be people he isn't really in order to impress the people he's around, so it means something that he feels able to just be *Nick* with Dylan.

And honestly, there are already choice-dependent relationship options in the game - as Nick, you can choose whether or not to kiss Abi, and as Ryan, you can choose whether or not to kiss Dylan or Kaitlyn. It wouldn't be out of place at all for there to be another option for Dylan, as much as I also love Ryan/Dylan.

I think they balance each other nicely. Dylan makes Nick laugh and doesn’t seem to need him to perform some cooler version of himself. Nick gives Dylan someone who already gets his humour before the chaos starts.

Dylan was an idiot. Well, he actually was very smart, but he's an idiot, because he didn't mention his oranges allergy to the person who's cooking their food. Even worse was the fact that this said person was his best friend and these types of things tend to be brought up in a conversation. But against all odds it wasn't. So now Dylan was lying in his bed, Nick at his side.

“Remind me, why are you the one who's treating me and not Kaitlyn?”

“Because she's busy”, Nick shrugged, scanning his face for something. Symptoms of the allergy worsening, probably. “And also because i'm the one who caused this”

“No, you're not”, Dylan rolled his eyes, which hurt, by the way. “I'm the one who didn't mention severe citrus allergy, you didn't know”, He nudged Nick's shoulder lightly.

“Still”, Nick pouted – which looked adorable – with uncertainty, his hand worriedly clenching the bed sheets. “I can't help but feel guilty”

“Stop it”, Dylan squinted, poking his chest, “If it weren't for your quick reaction I would be in a much worse shape right now”. He smiled encouragingly.

“..True, I guess”, Nick’s face perked up slightly. “Please tell me if you have any other allergies?”

“As far as I know, this is the only one”, Dylan reassured him.

“Thank god”, Nick sighed, fiddling with his fingers. Dylan put the right hand on top of Nick's to stop it. “You'll worry the burrs”, he mumbled, tracing shapes with a thumb.

Nick flushed, ducking his head sheepishly.

“Sorry…”

“Don't apologize”, Dylan tutted, letting go of Nick’s hand. He ignored the emptiness that came with the action. “Bring me some apples from the kitchen, please?”. He yawned, if only to help Nick make himself busy. It's not like Dylan was dying, so no reason for his best friend to be glued to his side.

“Of course”, Nick nodded readily, getting off the bed. He looked down on Dylan, gaze soft and filled with something Dylan couldn't understand, especially in a sleepy state he was in right now. Before he drifted off he felt warm lips on his forehead, and he would have blushed if he wasn't red from allergy already.
