I never considered DusTora problematic and always thought that they have a 5 year age gap at worst. I'm pretty sure that I saw them as a couple from the beginning of my playthrough, even though it is not a ship I'm focused on now.

That ship is obviously problematic!

First reason is because I was a dumb teenager who didn't understand how problematic the age gap was. Like, I was deadass one of those people who justified it by saying that Kumatora must be at least 18 after the timeskip because I legit thought that made it okay.

Obviously, it didn't and there's still a problematic age gap regardless.

Another reason I shipped it was because I was deep into my anti-woke and pick me queer bullshit. So even though I knew I was a queer person, I hated a lot of queer headcanons because I believed it was forced diversity.

And since I believed that Duster calling Kumatora cute was proof they had a thing going on, I shipped them because compulsory heterosexuality.

What really didn't help was that Poo is my favorite character and especially at the time, the Earthbound fandom had a problem with ignoring him in favor of the white characters. And that made me see their queer and race related headcanons seem disingenuous to me.
