“Forgive me for not believing a stranger without evidence.” Pale eyes flickered towards the unknown woman as the Hyuuga leaned against a nearby building, allowing the overhanging roof to shield him from the rain. He was soaked, hair clinging to his face and diluted blood clinging to his clothing as the water washed it down towards the ground. Of course he’d manage to get caught in some far off village without his team. The mission was supposed to be a simple one, no violence. How easily that plan had gone to hell. He’d walked right into the trap. How arrogant. It was only by sheer luck that none of the people in the little town had been harmed yet.
Despite the strain on his eyes from chakra loss, Neji reactivated his byakugan, scanning the area. “You should go back inside while I make sure I got the last one.” Four bodies littered the ground, growing cold already. There had been at least one among them among jounin rank but still they fell, wounds from the gentle fist the only remaining signs of their fate. There had been a fifth but the byakugan didn’t spot a man, at least, not a shinobi. The town was so full of people and he didn’t get a good look at him before he fled. He could be in hiding, blending in among the scared people who hid in their homes.
“Mmph.” The Hyuuga flinched as he stepped away from the wall, the beating down rain irritating the new wound he bore across his chest. It didn’t feel dangerously deep but that didn’t stop the pain as he maintained his focus on his surroundings. Still nothing out of place. The man was gone, hopefully fled to reevaluate his life but it was never that easy. “Really, you should go inside. I cannot promise your safety if you remain out here.”
