EL Nido Day 24
So today was just ridiculous, I know I have said this a bit, but it really took it out for most ridiculous on a heap of different levels. We woke up, ate, and then picked up our scooter things for the day, they were Suzuki Skydrive 125s, and they were unreal. First up we rode through town and up to a place called Duli Beach, it was about a 40 minute ride through some very questionable terrain (mud, dirt, rocks, sand and dust) but it delivered. It was a secluded surf beach with just us and the people that owned the little holiday huts there. We hired some boards from them and went surfing with Mike who was the local legend I guess. We bought some drinks and had some food at the huts there and then headed on our way after a few hours. From there we rode north and around the island, there was some mental views along the way but the best part was just smashing it down horrible roads on these wild scooters. The ratio of dirt/rocks to actual road was about 80:20, the smooth roads were fun and fast, but the rocks were just too good.
Out of the five of us, two of the guys binned it, but no one came out real bad, just some scooter damage and a couple of grazes. I was going fine until I got a flat tyre on the home stretch (last 30 minutes or so), I pushed my scooter for about 20 minutes until some locals in a ute stopped to help. These guys spoke 0 English, but helped me load my scooter into the back and drove me into town to a guy who could replace my tube. The ute ride was fun, I just sat in the tray and got to take in the scenery while these dudes blasted Taylor Swift and what I believe was Underoath, that really made the trip I think. Once they dropped me off I thanked them dearly as a dude ripped the tube out of my scooter and replaced it for a whopping 130 pesos (a bit under $5aud) and sent me on my way. I arrived back to the hostel with a fully functioning scooter and everyone was psyched to see me (especially the hire guys who were about to ride to me to fix it). All in all, it was a great day and I couldn’t be happier.
