A very common phrase used among Swedish teachers and parents. “Vad duktig du är” translates roughly to “you are so skilled”. A form of praise, a way of expressing that the other person is good at something.

Duktig = capable, good (at something)

You: *does something awesome*

Swede: vad duktig du är!

Effort is also appreciated. So it doesn’t really mean that you are great at whatever thing Swedes are referring to. In this context it could be more accurately translated to “you are so diligent / hard working / disciplined”.

Jag gick till gymmet idag = I went to the gym today

Duktig

Duktig is a word that we use all the time. It describes someone who is hard-working, dedicated, skilled, efficient, able, clever and good. Someone who performs what they are supposed to efficiently. There has been a new expression "duktig flicka syndrom" or "good girl syndrome" it is used to describe someone (usually a girl) who pressures themselves to always be duktig, doing everything that people ask of them in a perfectionist way to the point where they are all about pleasing others at their own expense. Being duktig is good but trying with everything you have to be perceived as duktig is destructive.
