So as most of you know yesterday was my first time participating in the Federal Duck Stamp Contest. I unfortunately didn't make it out of round one, but I came pretty close. I got two 'in' votes out of 5 (3 needed to advance). All in all it was a fun experience to be apart of, and I'm excited to do this again in the future. Best of luck to all of my amazing friends who are still in the game! Well, now that the contest is done I can finally share my entry. 😀 This was for the Michigan Duck Stamp Contest. I didn't place but I apparently did make it into the second round. Which I gotta say, that's pretty exciting!!! Congrats to those who placed!!! That's very exciting!!! Did anyone else get the feeling that as soon as it was announced that Jim Hautman was allowed in again that he was definitely gonna win????? Anyway here are some of my personal favs from this year in order of my fav to least fav.
179. I love this piece. It’s so unique and I think the colors are so vibrant. I could look at it forever, he’s such a little cutie <3
271. Brimstone!! The colors on his feathers are so beautiful. I absolutely love the way they did the wings. I’m not a big fan of this species of duck anyway, but Brimstone is changing my mind.
283. The babies!!!!! The ducklings are so cute!!!!!! I totally thought a wood duck entry would win this year since you can do so many things with the colors. That’s one of the reasons why I especially love this piece, I feel like usually people would have done a drake. Im pleasantly happy that this is a girl duck, and not only that but a mother duck!!!!! I love seeing motherhood be portrayed!
200. I love that the water is so simple but so effective. I love the realism on it. Literally took my breath away the first time I saw it.
247. THE DECOY ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? I love love LOVE it!!!!! And again, the water looks amazing!
This is gorgeous, I would hang this in my house. I didn’t know that an essentially brown duck could look so vibrant. The lily pad is amazing, and I’m mesmerized by the movement in the water
198. He looks like a little gentleman, so handsome. I’m so jealous of the way people can paint feathers and still make them look like feathers.
282. I love the position they put him in. I love watching ducks stretch. I love that they didn’t paint him in the water, it really stuck out to me
192. It’s giving fantasy, this artstyle is so unique. I wish I could just eat it and regurgitate it into my own hand.
290. Honestly I did not think this piece would make it into the second round because it’s so unique and so late into the judging. I was so happy to see it advance. It’s absolutely gorgeous, there’s so many different textures and every time I see it again I find something new.
That was the last one I could add lol. I’m not the biggest fan of this years winner, idk if I’m still gonna get a stamp. Compared to his previous works I think the piece that won is so bland and not really much to look at while also simultaneously being too much. The Hautmans are incredibly talented, and if I could just steal a shred of their talent I would be so lucky. But again I did not like this years winner.
