It must be admitted that Pantaloon is excessively miserly. Ill-disposed gossips assert even that his most sumptuous feasts consist of dog or alley-cat soup, that he draws his wine from the fountain at the corner, and partakes of a duck egg as the chief dish of the banquet. Pantaloon himself eats the yellow of the egg, and gives the white to his wife an the watery part to his children, in order to spare them the rigours of stomach-ache. Hay que reconocer que Pantalone es excesivamente miserable. Chismes mal intencionados afirman que, incluso que sus comidas más suntuosas consisten en sopa de perro o gato callejero, que saca su vino de la fuente de la esquina, y lleva un huevo de pato como plato principal del banquete. El mismo Pantalone come la yema del huevo, y le da la clara a su esposa y la parte acuosa a sus hijos, a fin de evitarles los rigores de un dolor de estómago.
