Ah, 1966, when "gay" meant carefree, and your midday buzz was considered a "Parisian adventure" rather than a HR violation. This ad is doing a lot of heavy lifting to convince the American housewife that a glass of fortified wine is the missing ingredient for a cosmopolitan life.
Check out that reflection in the glass: it's not just a drink, it's a portal to a French boulevard where everyone wears elaborate millinery and nobody has ever heard of a "caloric deficit." Also, can we talk about the cat on the label? Nothing screams "sophisticated European socialite" like a tabby staring at a bottle of booze. It’s the original "distracted boyfriend" meme, but with more velvet and a 19% alcohol content. It's "light and mild," they say, just a gentle way to ensure that by the time dinner is served, you’ve forgotten why you were mad at the vacuum cleaner.
