I just heard the Jurassic films are getting another 4K release on Blu-ray and IMHO the wild part is that they are changing the format of the audio to Dolby Atmos rather than the DTS equivalent, DTS:X
The reason is because Jurassic Park had such history with DTS being the movie that introduced it!
DTS:X is a fine immersive format and I think some films have better immersive audio tracks in it..
Also, there's equipment that has more or better features in DTS:X than Atmos. (better features like support for more advanced speaker layouts with more speakers than the typical home immersive audio setup)
But I suppose it doesn't have as much traction as Atmos especially because Atmos is the defacto standard for streaming!
I don't think DTS has a streaming version of DTS:X and for the longest time not even a streaming format at all and that's caused the situation where Dolby is the defacto standard for streaming other than AAC which doesn't support immersive audio directly!
And since Atmos was becoming the standard it's gotten much more traction and adoption than DTS:X so it might be going the way of the betamax..

Apart from being a keen gamer and writer I also love my movies. This means I spend an inordinate amount of time tweaking my TV and home theatre setup to get the most out of my games and movies.
A lot of audio and video standards have come out in the last decade. It wasn’t that long ago when DVD came along and made the classic VHS tape extinct. Way back then DVD meant that Dolby Digital 5.1 or…
