Finally, I was able to put together my own vision of Maxwell!!! I mainly drew inspiration (was inspired) by something dark and especially by bats. I don't know why, but these animals were the first to start associating with him in my mind. Plus, with those pointed ears and the dark pattern on his face, it only emphasizes that he's no longer entirely human and has been heavily influenced by the Codex Umbra.

And out of all the little details I mentioned on this reference (?), I'll only mention the main one — flared pants, which weren't typical for magicians back in those days, since they preferred classic evening suits and everything along those lines. But initially, when he was still William, he fully adhered to this rule because of his shyness and insecurity, in an attempt to fit within the established norms. BUT! As soon as he created the stage persona of a confident Maxwell, this kind of self-expression and breaking the rules began to feel normal for him, no longer causing the inner discomfort it used to.

And not too long ago, I was struck by an idea for a headcanon about Maxwes (Maxwell x Wes) — that, OH MY GOD, Maxwell and Wes actually knew each other back in the real world long before the events of the Constant, having met during one of the tours, where William fell in love with this guy for the first time, but was terribly afraid to make the first move. And this insecurity and shyness became unbearably painful because George T. Witherstone also started showing attention to Wes, and compared to William, he outshone him in every aspect, which not only caused suffocating jealousy but also made William feel even more pathetic, since he couldn't compete with George for the attention of the mime, who had become so desirable to him in such a short time they'd spent together.

Warlys's father moved from the islands of the Bahamas to Haiti, where he met and married Angeline, and they had a family together.

Warly's favorite folktales and stories are about B’Bouki and B’Rabby, shared by his father. It's actually B’Rabby and B'Bouki most often on the Bahamas, but he's always liked B'Bouki (who is a goat) more, so that's how he speaks about them.

He used to play with the goats his family used to raise. He went on make-believe adventures where they braved the forest and sailed the ocean to the other islands.

Which he did in some form later even before the Constant! When he was older, he first worked on the boats of fishermen who were family friends and on ships docking at port to earn a bit of money. Later he traveled the Carribean Sea to apprentice and learn under cooks from different cultures and their cuisines. He often paid for passage by helping on the boats he traveled on. Sometimes in the galley. This expanded on his seafaring knowledge.

The first time he spotted a Tiger Shark's fin from the distance, he thought it was a lusca - a shark-octopus creature from the ocean around in the Bahamas - because of its size. While it being able to move to land as well was shocking, Warly was relieved that it had no tentacles it could ensnare him with.

While not a fans of monsters, Warly loves Walter's campfire stories. It reminds him of how his Maman and Papa used to tell him and his cousins stories when they were still children. They even created stories with B'Bouki as the protagonist for Warly.

“This is going to be fun”

Oh I've always had those in mind, just never really posted any drawings of this aspect of him, I guess. But I think the fact that he can transform his limbs is very fascinating and can easily be interpreted as a cool power of sorts.

Here's a few headcanons I've had since 2021 and others I got inspired from, but never shared.

Wormwood can transform all of his body into living logs or any other plant, not only just his arms.

When he's angered or threatened his hands sometimes transform into claws. These TNW (Totally-Normal-Wood) claws are stronger than most of constant materials (aside of course gems and the rare stuff)

He could easily shatter a rock if he used his claws more often. Or take down any somewhat stronger mob with little effort.

Regardless of that, he chooses not to use these powers to his advantage and prefers being himself than possibly seen as some scary monster. (He has a bad experience with that in the past when he tried to save a creature, but it got scared of him and his sharper appearance due to TNW.)

However, he can use his shape-shifting ability for good or to entertain people instead. For example, since he can turn into every sort of plant or turn his arms into any shape, he's usually seen entertaining the child survivors. Aka, he's put on babysitting duty.

His limbs can split into countless vines, for example when he needs a stronger grip on something and his leafy hands feel too weak and clumsy. Or when he holds someone else's hand, he sometimes loosens his vines. Hence why most people usually don't hold his hand. 🕯️

He can communicate with his plant friends via a root system, this is usually done through his feet, but when he wants to hear them better or communicate with more plants within a greater range, he usually kneels down and splits his limbs (Based on @mango-mush 's ideas) And I think that is a great concept.

Wilson runs his hands through Maxwell’s hair to help him sleep. Now that is the only way Maxwell can sleep now a days, with out Wilson he will stay awake for how ever long he can until is body stops working.

Yes Maxwell is still wearing his tie, he is self conscious about his body and how he looks even when he sleeps, Wilson tried to have Maxwell take off his tie and stiff clothing to sleep more comfortably but just let Maxwell wear them so he can be comfortable how he wants.
