THE DOCTOR ALWAYS LEFT HER WITHOUT A WORD. but this time it was different -- he said he just needed to come back to TARDIS because he left something important there ( maybe it was his weird magic wand that he called a screwdriver. ) so she waited -- she was quite good at waiting for him, wasn’t she? -- and waited. but he didn’t come back. he left her in a town that was even smaller than leadworth ( she thought it was impossible & yet it happened. )

it’s been hours probably now, so she decided it was time to ask people around. she didn’t even know how she ended up at the police station, but then, the doctor owned a police box so it seemed to her it was a good option.

     It had been too simple to slip out of the house, insisting on sleeping downstairs and allowing Chloe a night in her bed. He knew how long to wait, pushing back the covers to pull some clothes on before he was picking up his phone and keys before quietly leaving the house. It doesn't take him more than a few minutes to be outside of Ellie's house, gazing up towards the window that he knows leads to her bedroom. There are no lights on that he can see, but he hoped she would still be awake. From his position she would be able to see him, likewise he would be able to see any light turning on and her movement inside. 

      Retrieving his phone from his pocket, fingers hesitated over the screen for a minute, inevitably typing out the short message before pressing send.

                ( text: Ellie ) Fancy a walk?

     Ellie's text had sent Mark moving quickly. Parking the van haphazardly against a curb near the station, he followed Ellie's instructions to get into a rarely used corner of the station. It didn't take him long to find her, half running to her when he caught sight of her. Bending at the knees, he crouched down to a kneel, a look of heavy concern on his face.

        "Hey El, I'm here... What's happened, darling?"

                      “I´m fine.”

             And of course that was a lie, but Chloe was tired of people offering their help to her out of pity. She´d be fine by herself. She had to be from now on. 

Alec pinched the bridge of his nose beneath his glasses, before removing them entirely, setting them on the counter. The new case they had taken on was driving him right mad, and had every right to do so.

The case had to do with the murder of a young girl, about Daisy’s age. Maybe that’s why it got to him so easily, not that every case didn’t get to him. He wanted to get justice for everyone, and sometimes he just couldn’t do that, and it ate him alive, just as the Sandbrook case once had, promptly almost killing him. He couldn’t do that again.

But this case.

This case had shaken him to his very core, the violence, the brutal nature of the murder. And the fact she was no older than Daisy. That thought alone made his skin crawl.

He sighed and buttered the toast he had made, ignoring the footsteps of who he was sure was Ellie, coming into the kitchen area as well. He pretended not to hear her, taking a bite of the toast. He was actually eating for once, and he was sure she would make some cheeky comment about it, knowing her. Most of the time she was the one who prompted him to eat actual food. He would get so wrapped up in his work, he just didn’t. The case was more important. 

It had been almost five years since Mark had stepped a foot into the Broadchurch police station. He reminded the journey well, a mere after he had found out who had killed Danny, sneaking in a back entrance courtesy of Bob. However, his venture was much different this time. After a brief conversation with Bob himself, Mark was making his way up to where he knew Ellie worked.

He hadn't seen her in months, not spoken to her since he had packed up his van and left town. Striding up behind her, he leaned down to press a kiss to the top of her head. "Hiya, El."
