X is for Xanthan Gum by ChicaD58 WHAT is this alien substance - and WHERE is it? While I'm pretty sure Xanthan Gum is not an alien substance, even though it sounds pretty bizarre, it is basically a type of sugar called a polysaccharide used as a thickening agent and stabilizer to prevent ingredients from separating. It can be found in baked goods, dairy products, creamy condiments, caned meats and powdered drinks - to name a few. You may even have consumed some yourself in the past 24 hours.
