Ds-wiigender was coined by Twitter user Wednesdayhedge on June 30, 2020.

Ds-wiigender is described as “the reason i coined this term is because of mine, and maybe others, attachment to the ds/dsi/wii era of nintendo and how it affects their gender identity! its also important to note that the gender encompasses anything from general time they were released, the consoles themselves, the built-in software, or even specific games that were put out by nintendo for ds/wii.”
