I think a line Subaru has in the final loop kind of spells it out. Basically, when talking to Beatrice about the fact that he’s still cursed, he has a thought like, “She’s not going to say something like ‘I didn’t cure you yet because you didn’t ask me for help’ right?”

I’ll tell you this much:

Subaru’s self-harm tendencies get brought up very explicitly in the LN.

In this volume, even.

It really differs from person to person, but here’s a couple:

Rachins: The one where he stabbed Subaru to death. It was largely an accident, and there are other, worse deaths that come after that, but he just can’t get the image of his own self murdering someone in cold blood out of his head.

Eridna and Beatrice: The first Arc 2 loop. Beatrice wasn’t his contracted partner yet, but she is now, and — she apparently once abandoned him to die, despite the fact that it would have taken her five seconds to just remove that fucking curse. Beatrice is devastated, Eridna is furious.

Rem and Ram: I don’t think there’s any possible answer that isn’t the loop where Rem tortured him for hours before Ram killed him in order to keep him quiet.

Wilhelm: The second Petelgeuse death. Not because of the grotesqueness of the Archbishop’s actions — he’s seen worse, probably — but because of the very painful and haunting realization of the similarities between his own righteous anger and the anguish-inducing display of rage that Subaru presented in response to Rem’s death.

Mimi, Crusch, Felt, and Reinhard: The third Petelgeuse death. Nobody was there. Mimi, Crusch, and Reinhard are all anguished about their failures to be there for him when he was outright begging for help, but Felt is just completely pissed with the lot of them (sans Reinhard, who was legit just not there due to a spell of bad luck).

Ferris: Both of Subaru’s suicides offend him on a very personal level, but the one he does in an attempt to save Rem (and by extension, Crusch and the rest of that lot) from Gluttony has so many other complicated feelings tied up in it that he just — it’s a lot.

Julius: If you think Julius is getting a little too overprotective now, imagine how that man is going to react to watching Subaru attempt to PET THE GREAT RABBIT.

That was my way of indicating that, at that moment, it was actually ERIDNA who was getting that angry at Beatrice, one contracted spirit to another. Because, as a contracted spirit, Beatrice knowingly abandoning Subaru to die was a very, very personal insult.

Aside from your three main fics will u ever start writing any of your if fics, because personally I really want to see a fully developed runaway if because seeing people try chase down a time looper is hilarious.

In your no refunds fic to just be sure will it start at the start of arc 5 and culminate into your omelas fic as a result of Subaru placing pressure on himself as everyone knows about rbd so he would feel like he would be blamed for any casualties.

If your no refund fic if it does go the way I think it does what will be people’s reaction when they realise he rbd’s. Can they tell from the slight zoning out, or will it be Beatrice telling everyone about miasma increase. If Subaru asked Beatrice not to tell, do you feel like she would listen or would she prioritise getting Subaru protection by telling people he’s rbd’d.

Ik I asked a lot of questions but with your more practical and realistic way of writing I think all these would be very interesting plot threads

1) Considering it, but I think I’m about at capacity for the moment lol. Runaway IF is definitely under consideration, but — god, I don’t know how I’d even get STARTED with writing something like that lmao. I will say — aside from my Re:Forgotten spin-off, which I’ve already written a bit for — Runaway IF and Crusch IF would probably be the ones most likely to get actual fics, if only because they’re the ones with actual plots that I can imagine myself writing in some form or another.

(Though to be clear…if anyone wants to write something based on any of my IFs, I would genuinely be fine with that. Ecstatic, even. My only two requests would be that 1) you credit me for the idea (this is one of the only times when I would consider posting a link to my Tumblr to an alternate, public site not just acceptable, but outright appreciated) and 2) you send me the link, because god knows I’d want to read it.)

2) It does indeed start at the beginning of Arc 5, but that ficlet isn’t the climax of the story, lol — I never would have posted it if it was. It’s more like…the halfway mark? Or a bit before that, even. It’s definitely A climax, but it’s not the big finale.
