      “ HOW COME YOU NEVER ACCUSE MARILKA?  even though she has stolen like, five things from you before, ”  as if she had heard her name spoken, the aforementioned squaller - in - training looks up and squints at him.  did they have super hearing?  fuck.  jesper gives her a blank, passive look, nonchalant as you please, and shuffles himself and nina further away from her.  “ if i pinched something off you, you wouldn’t even notice it was gone.  besides . . . if i was hiding a whole bottle of kvaas on my person, you’d have seen it t . . . too.  nina.  oh, no.  nina.  what if zoya found it?  or worse — ivan? ”

     “ i’ve been wondering, ” that’s an interesting enough prompt from jesper, especially when he’s in the process of running a cloth over his rifle. “ at the little palace. how’s the luxury there? ” he had been cautious on the idea of letting nina know about his status of grisha, but alas - needing to break out of prison make certain secrets come to light. and now that he’s had some time to reflect on it... if someone asked him, he’d deny wanting to go to the little palace for some training, but one thing that he couldn’t deny is that it’s been on his mind recently.

           ❛   mm — not me,   ❜   answer is easy of his tongue, words like raindrops falling steadily. smile is bright on his lips.   ❛   and not you either, if i might say,   ❜   he raises a brow, though amusement and humor already on his face as if they’d been there the whole time. wings, legs — whatever it was, nina had already flown higher and further than the average being. theo too, he supposed, though it hardly felt high. perhaps he had icarian tendencies every once in a while, but nothing like the adventures and tales he’s heard of the corpsewitch. he hardly knows what possesses him — likely the inability to keep quiet — but he continues speaking and saying what he hoped might be the right thing to say.   ❛   you may molt and change colors, but that’s nothing to do with wingspan.   ❜   a smile and a gentle nudge with an elbow.

❝  I am fine.  ❞  He’s lying,  &  they both know it. Nina’s hand on his own prompts a deeper breath,  &  for a moment Kuwei turns his over.  Squeezes,  despite knowing neither of them would feel the reassurance intended. Surviving was just one big game of  ‘ fake it till you make it ‘  &  if anyone had learned anything, the inferni was rather  good  at faking things. She’d of been none the wiser, like the rest of the crows, if she couldn’t feel the same pounding of his heart he heard in his ears.  ❝  Really. I am.  ❞     ( He wasn’t. )

“You should get some rest, my dear” Worry is evident in both her voice and her eyes, as Marya looks over at where Nina is sitting. “Stay as long as you want, I don’t mind at all and surely neither does my son.” 

5  :  WHAT CHARACTER HAVE YOU NEVER WRITTEN, BUT HAVE WANTED TO ?     for sure,  holland vosijk from the shades of magic series.   he was instantly my favourite of the two antari from day 1 and I just love every single trope associated with him,  the type of character he is,  so on.   and he’s unique in that regard, I haven’t seen a lot of characters like him in most of fantasy literature,  but I haven’t got around to writing him just much because I haven’t finished the books yet.
