Ruby had never lived outside of New York. She was born and raised there, and raised both her daughters as well. The state was home. Rainbow Falls was home. The ridiculously large house she possessed was home. Even after the loss of her dear children, she desperately tried to maintain her home.
The disappearance of Roxy nearly crushed her. Ruby couldn't even pass by her bedroom without breaking down into sobs. Her baby could be dead, or dying, or having her soul eaten. The blow was cushioned somewhat by the fact that she still had Rose. She still had someone to nurture and protect, and she'd be damned if she would let anything happen to her. Never once did she consider she was harming her daughter more than helping her.
Once Rose's mind and soul were ruined and she had escaped to wreck havoc on the world, Ruby fell into a state of perpetual intoxication. Simply put, she became a hardcore alcoholic. She hoped that one day the liquor would fill the hollow place in her heart that was left there by her children. It never worked.
After years of drinking to forget, Ruby owned up to the fact that she would never get over it while the ghost of her long lost daughters haunted the halls. With no place left to turn she packed up and moved to death city. It was the most likely place for Rose to go after all.
She locked up the bar she was currently employed at and began to trudge home, digging her flask out of her purse. All she wanted to do was go home and curl up with her cat and a bottle of whiskey.
