Memory floods back in moments.. Playing drunk jenga at the lake. You, clawing my arms like barbed wire Outside Oklahoma Ranch 'til they nearly bled For not giving you back your keys When you couldn't walk a line straight. Sushi, steak, tarot cards, A first kiss in the photobooth, A.K.A., our first date. How the red light stayed red For multiple cycles, cars pulling U-ee's Into oncoming traffic, Setting the precedent: I'm always late. Top Gun 2 in South Dakota after One-too-many spiked hot chocolates, I cried when I saw the Iceman, Only two years before he died... Dance classes. You couldn't stand Kate. Flying to see me, After we'd only known each other a month, When job training took me out of state. The Great New Years' Eve Fiasco. You, drunk, dialed your ex's number a Hundred times, & I, dumb, struck, Didn't know what to do. I still can't believe I remained. I still can't believe we jumped Out of a "perfectly good airplane." It was a freefall, how I fell in love, And I can proudly state I spent Every day thinking of new ways To tell you so. To show you. So, The memory of you saying "I have to tell you something terrible" Haunts me to this day. I thought we were running away. I thought of all the good love we'd make. I thought.. there was good love left to save. I thought I'd finally found someone, who'd stay.
