A Quick Pro Tools Hack to Turn Your Drum Tracks Into MIDI
Hey guys! Today I want to do something different, a video blog!
In the video, I’m going to talk about the dark art of drum sampling. More specifically, I will show you a quick hack to get MIDI notes placed under your drum kit.
Now having said that, I still believe that getting the best sounding drums possible at the recording stage will yield the best result. Hands down.
But what happens when you mess up the tracking stage? What happens when you weren’t a part of the tracking stage and you were given bad sounds? Furthermore, what if you want a synthetic sound and plan to layer 808’s over a real kit? These are two great applications for the same principle. And we’re going to use MIDI notes to do so.
When you place MIDI notes for the samples instead of audio, you have unlimited flexibility. You can try different samples of any kind, you can adjust their velocity, you can easily add many layers of samples on top of each other. The benefits are endless.
When you utilize this hack to getting MIDI notes placed, you can get your drums feeling amazing much fast. So check the video below and enjoy! Brad

This is STE's second part tutorial. This tutorial focuses mostly on drum loops and how to sample them, as well as adding effects to them. He shows how to use drum loops in pattern mode as well as chop them so you can rearrange them. The majority of the tutorial is mainly over drum sampling, effects, and other tips and tricks such as panning, cutoff, and velocity.
