It was more frustrating than she remembered it. Makkari had been on Earth for 7,000 years. She had seen civilizations rise and fall. Generations had come and gone and still she stayed the same. Before the separation of the Eternals -- before their family had fallen apart -- Makkari had conversed regularly with the humans. They learned to sign alongside her or she read their lips when need be. There were instances where she sensed the vibrations of the words that left their mouths but failed to reach her ears. She had always made do.
Then, she had gone to the Domo.
Centuries passed. The world turned. Makkari remained locked away with the exceptions of when she ventured out to collect steal new artifacts and trinkets. People stopped learning how to sign and began to talk rapidly. Makkari was fine with fast -- she was the template for speed, really. Costume masks and muttering just made it difficult. Slight irritation was reflected in brown eyes as the speedster skid to a stop in front of her companion.
They’re making it difficult. Makkari signed, fists bumping together as made a double letter x sign on each hand. I’m not making any progress.
